Experience the essence of spring through the written page.
According to Ms. Vu Thi An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang General Science Library, compared to last year, this year's Reading Culture Festival focuses on the theme of spring, traditional customs, and the beauty of springtime. Special publications, short stories, and poems about spring help readers reminisce about their roots, feel the essence of spring through each page, and appreciate the cultural tradition of writing the first words of the year.
The nine-day event (from February 28th to March 9th) includes: an exhibition of information resources, spring newspapers, paintings, and photographs; the launch of the book "La Qua is also nearby" and thematic programs such as "The Spring of Books," "Preserving National Cultural Identity in the Era of Integration," and "Smart Students - Safe Internet Use." Along with these are interactive and experiential programs such as: "The Magic Box," "Fun Letters," "Little Golden Bell," and "Pieces of the Vietnamese Soul."
In addition, the festival also organized book promotion and quiz programs with prizes such as "Opening Books to Welcome Spring," "Springtime History," "Springtime Journey with Books," and poetry and music nights like "Spring Melodies," "Springtime Homeland Songs," "The Nation's Complete Joy," etc., attracting readers and students from high schools in the city to participate.
With the theme "The Springtime of Books," speaker Nguyen Ngoc Ai Quynh from Q-Academy Center provided students with a valuable platform to explore the significance of books in life.
“What comes to mind when you think of spring? A new beginning, a promise to yourself, or a chance to start over? For me, spring is not just about blooming flowers. Spring begins with a decision, and sometimes, that decision is just like opening a new page in a book. But a year from now, you’ll know it’s not a small decision,” shared speaker Nguyen Ngoc Ai Quynh.
According to speaker Ai Quynh, if knowledge is not nurtured, it will lie dormant. But if we start today, in a year we will be grateful to ourselves.
As the organizer of the book launch for "La Qua is also nearby," poet Le Anh Dung said he encouraged teacher Do Thi Bong to boldly release her small collection of essays, which encapsulates the simple beauty of her hometown, La Qua.
The literature teacher at Nguyen Duy Hieu High School (Dien Ban) writes about everyday stories from her home and neighborhood, about simple yet emotionally resonant aspects of her rural life. There's nothing grandiose or bombastic, but rather a gentle, subtle, and profoundly humane tone. "The work 'La Qua is also nearby' helps readers to love their homeland and roots even more in the early days of spring," poet Le Anh Dung confided.
Making books accessible to a wider audience.
According to the plan, the Da Nang General Science Library will organize three reading culture festivals each year: at the beginning of spring, the beginning of summer, and the beginning of the new school year. In 2026, the library signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Education (Da Nang University) and Da Nang College to organize reading culture development activities twice a year. These activities include sharing digital information resources and providing free library card consultations for faculty, students, and staff of the schools.

The Reading Culture Festival also provides students with an opportunity to learn about literary works, contributing to fostering a love for literature. Present at the Da Nang General Science Library during the first Da Nang Reading Culture Festival activities with her students, Ms. Le Thi Ly, homeroom teacher of class 6/1 at Nguyen Hue Secondary School, said that the exchange program was very lively and beneficial, providing knowledge about literary works, folk songs and proverbs, etc., helping students to improve their Vietnamese language skills.
In addition to supporting the in-person exhibition, this year the Da Nang General Science Library also supported the development of online Lunar New Year newspapers for 18 communes and wards in the city, from urban areas to mountainous communes, helping people access approximately 350 Lunar New Year newspapers from central and 34 local press agencies, attracting more than 17,500 visits. Along with its first location, the library at its second location (283 Phan Boi Chau Street, Ban Thach Ward) organized an exhibition of information resources and promoted books to celebrate the election of National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels.
In parallel, the Da Nang General Science Library also implements a mobile library program, with an average of two trips per week delivering 4,000-4,500 books to remote and disadvantaged areas to promote reading culture. Each mobile library trip, in addition to providing reading materials, also organizes book-related activities such as storytelling competitions and quizzes with prizes.
To date, the mobile library has visited the communes of Avương, Hùng Sơn, Trà Leng, Hà Nha, Thu Bồn, etc., and has been warmly received by the people. To ensure the program is effective and provides books to the right target audience, the library studies the strengths of each ward and commune, selecting books in relevant fields and specialties to meet the information needs of the people and the task of promoting socio-economic development in each locality.
