The exhibition, organized by the Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam Cultural and Scientific Activities Center in collaboration with the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Preservation Support Fund and Senhouse Vietnam Company, has contributed to widely promoting the cultural and artistic values of Vietnam to a large audience both domestically and internationally, thereby affirming the refined and profound foundation of national literature. Beyond its artistic value, the exhibition space also recreates and honors the beautiful traditional cultural features deeply rooted in Vietnamese identity – where the lotus is not just a flower but also the soul of the nation, connecting the past with the present, tradition with contemporary creativity.
Mặc Thủy's work draws inspiration from the beauty of the lotus flower and the values of "Truyện Kiều" (The Tale of Kiều). |
The exhibition features 32 calligraphic works by authors Mac Thuy and Doc Dinh, presented in ink on Xuan paper. The majority of the works depict distinctive verses from Nguyen Du's "Truyen Kieu," particularly those featuring lotus flowers or allusions to them as a rich metaphorical symbol. Most notably, to the left of the entrance is a portrait of the great poet Nguyen Du crafted from dried lotus leaves, evoking the image of a simple, elegant, and noble scholar. Alongside the exhibition space, a series of experiential activities such as pottery painting, viewing conical hats, and other handicrafts featuring lotus motifs contribute to spreading love for traditional materials and serve as a vibrant bridge bringing Vietnamese culture closer to the public.
Visitor Jari Jarvela, from Finland, shared her feelings upon her first visit to the exhibition: “I was very impressed with the image of the lotus flower – a flower that is not only beautiful but also embodies the cultural depth of the Vietnamese people. Looking at the calligraphy paintings, I felt the delicate beauty in each stroke of ink, especially the soft motifs mimicking lotus petals on paper.”
Dr. Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Cultural and Scientific Activities Center of Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam, said that in the past, the Center has organized many activities to honor Vietnamese cultural figures and traditional national cultural values, but this is the first time there has been an exhibition about the great poet Nguyen Du and "Truyen Kieu" (The Tale of Kieu). Calligraphy works expressing the value of "Truyen Kieu," along with ceramics and fashion items, have blended traditional and modern elements to create an impressive space within this special national historical site.
