The exhibition, organized by the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities of the Temple of Literature in collaboration with the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund and Senhouse Vietnam Company, has contributed to widely promoting the values of Vietnamese culture and art to a wide audience at home and abroad, thereby affirming the foundation of a sophisticated and profound national literature. Not only does it have artistic value, the exhibition space is also a place to recreate and honor the traditional cultural beauty imbued with Vietnamese identity - where the lotus is not only a flower but also the soul of the nation, connecting the past with the present, tradition with contemporary creativity.
Mac Thuy's work is inspired by the beauty of lotus and the value of "The Tale of Kieu". |
The exhibition introduces 32 calligraphy works by authors Mac Thuy and Doc Dinh, presented in Chinese ink on Xuyen paper. Most of the works depict unique verses from "Truyen Kieu" by Nguyen Du, especially verses with lotus images or evoking this flower as a meaningful metaphorical symbol. Most notably, right on the left side of the entrance to the exhibition is a portrait of the great poet Nguyen Du made from dried lotus leaves, to evoke the portrait of a simple, elegant Confucian scholar imbued with a noble spirit. In addition to the exhibition space, a series of experiential activities such as pottery painting, admiring conical hats and handicraft products with lotus motifs contribute to spreading the love for traditional materials, while becoming a lively bridge to bring Vietnamese culture closer to the public.
Tourist Jari Jarvela, from Finland, shared his feelings when visiting the exhibition for the first time: “I was very impressed with the image of the lotus flower - a flower that is not only beautiful but also contains the depth of Vietnamese culture. When looking at the calligraphy paintings, I feel the delicate beauty in each ink stroke, especially the soft motifs simulating lotus petals on paper.”
Dr. Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, said that in the past, the Center has organized many activities to honor Vietnamese cultural celebrities and traditional cultural values of the nation, but this is the first time there has been an exhibition about the great poet Nguyen Du and "Truyen Kieu". Calligraphy works expressing the value of "Truyen Kieu" along with ceramic and fashion works have blended traditional and modern elements to create an impressive space in this special national relic.
