The profound cultural space of our ancestral land.

The majestic Nghia Linh peak remains, its fragrant incense lingering among the silent ancient trees. The lively drums of the festival still resound, sacred flags flutter, and crowds of pilgrims flock to pay their respects to their ancestors. But the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Hung Kings Cultural and Tourism Week in 2026 seems to have a new look, with an expanded cultural space, bringing together the distinctive cultural colors of the ethnic communities from Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh provinces under one roof called the Hung Kings' Ancestral Land.

The Muong ethnic people at Cultural Camp Cluster No. 10 (comprising the communes of Tan Lac, Muong Bi, Van Son, Toan Thang, Muong Hoa, Cao Phong, Muong Thang, and Thung Nai) welcome tourists.

Within that sacred space, 18 cultural camps, with the participation of 148 communes and wards in the province, became vibrant "pieces" that contributed to a colorful and distinctive overall picture of the culture of the ancestral land, leaving a deep impression on the local people and visitors from all over.

Having just finished a vibrant gong performance with movements that were sometimes powerful and decisive, sometimes soft and graceful like the flight of a bird through the vast forest, Ms. Bui Thi Thuy Mung - Head of the Cultural Heritage Club of Dung Tien commune - quickly adjusted her costume and encouraged the members to prepare for the next performance to entertain tourists. Since the opening of the Hung Temple Festival (April 17th, or the 1st day of the 3rd lunar month) until now, the Cultural Camp of Cluster No. 9, comprising the communes of Muong Dong, Luong Son, Kim Boi, Cao Duong, Nat Son, Hop Kim, Lien Son, and Dung Tien, has been bustling with tourists coming to visit and experience. Folk songs and dances, deeply rooted in the traditional culture of the Muong ethnic group, are performed continuously, attracting enthusiastic applause from the audience. Ms. Mung emotionally shared: “The Dung Tien Commune Cultural Heritage Club has nearly 50 members, mostly women aged 50 to 70. We regularly practice and participate in exchange performances at the invitation of many localities, but this is the first time we have had the opportunity to perform at the Hung Kings Commemoration Day. I have been to Hung Temple to offer incense before, but participating in performances at the festival is a completely different feeling. We are very proud to bring the cultural identity of the Muong people to serve tourists on this sacred day of the nation's Ancestors' Commemoration.”

Born in 1995 in Mai Ha commune, Ha Thi Thao, a young woman of the Thai ethnic group, participated in the Hung Kings Commemoration Day for the first time as a member of the Chieng Chau hamlet's performing arts team. Wearing a vibrant traditional costume, Thao performed folk songs and introduced visitors to traditional artifacts of the Thai ethnic group displayed at the cultural center. Thao happily shared: “I’m tired but very happy and proud. This is the first time I’ve participated in such a large, lively, and solemn festival. After today, I will bring my family and friends to attend. Now we are also people of the ancestral land…”

These heartfelt sharing not only reflects the pride of each citizen in contributing to the success of the festival, but also vividly reflects the spirit of community cohesion within the shared cultural space named after the nation's origins.

Along with the ancient Xoan folk songs of the original Xoan troupes, the Gheo dance of Nam Cuong (Hien Quan commune), the Thuong Rang - Bo Meng dance of the Muong people of Hoa Binh, the Soong Co dance of the San Diu people of Dao Tru commune, the bird dance and shrimp catching dance of the Cao Lan people of Doan Hung commune..., modern songs praising the glorious Party, the great Uncle Ho, and the homeland resonated throughout the festival space, creating a colorful symphony connecting tradition with modernity, deepening the cultural depth of the festival returning to the roots of the nation. Each performance was not just a simple artistic performance but also a continuation of the traditional cultural stream, contributing to preserving and spreading the precious heritage values of our ancestors in contemporary life.

Outstanding features

This year's cultural camp brought together 18 meticulously designed campsites, each covering approximately 150 square meters, harmoniously blending traditional architecture with motifs reflecting the Hung King era. Each campsite was scientifically arranged, including a main building, a gate, a product display area, a propaganda area, and a community cultural activity area. Folk performances, artifact displays, introductions to local products, and traditional games created a unique appeal, attracting a large number of visitors to explore and experience the event.

Structured like a traditional stilt house with many lively miniature landscapes, the Cultural Camp of Cluster No. 5, comprising communes formerly belonging to Thanh Son and Tan Son areas, attracts visitors with a feeling that is both familiar and rustic, yet captivating and appealing. Mr. Le Thao, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Xuan Dai commune, said: “The camp space is designed with strong cultural features of the ancient Vietnamese Muong people, vividly recreating the traditional life of the local people. This is an opportunity for us to introduce the typical characteristics of the locality to tourists from near and far.” Miniature landscapes such as Long Coc tea hill, Kha Cuu waterwheel, Xuan Son National Park, Con Pass, Thanh Son tourist reception center... along with unique folk performances such as the coming-of-age dance, bell dance, gong performance, bamboo pole dance, folk singing, etc., have contributed to vividly recreating the traditional cultural life of the ethnic groups here.

A special highlight of this year's Cultural Camp is the space showcasing traditional products associated with the distinctive culinary culture of each locality. Dishes such as fermented pork in bamboo tubes, sticky rice cooked in bamboo, sour bamboo shoots, forest honey, multi-toed chicken, and many other characteristic products of Thanh Son and Tan Son regions; traditional cakes and mountain products of the Muong, Thai, Dao, and San Diu ethnic groups... have created a rich and attractive culinary landscape within the festival space. Each dish not only possesses its own unique flavor but also embodies local knowledge, reflecting long-standing customs and the harmonious relationship between people and nature in the midland and mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam. In the expanded cultural space following the administrative reorganization, the convergence of culinary colors from Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh further enriches the cultural landscape of the festival, while also opening up opportunities to promote the potential for community tourism and experiential tourism associated with the preservation of traditional cultural identity. Thus, culinary culture not only contributes to the unique appeal of the Hung Temple Cultural Camp, but also becomes a bridge connecting the communities of ethnic groups in the journey of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of the Hung King era in today's life.
