Supporting female workers

At Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Corporation, the voices of female workers are always valued in all policies, from collective labor agreements to welfare benefits. According to Nguyen Thanh Son, Chairman of the Corporation's Trade Union, the union always organizes extensive consultations with workers, especially female workers, before drafting the terms of collective labor agreements.

For many years, the Corporation has included provisions in its collective labor agreements that are more favorable than the law, demonstrating concrete care for female workers such as allowances of VND 587,600/person/month for pregnant women over 7 months and those raising children under 12 months old; support for housing rent and transportation to work; childcare allowance; heat relief allowance; and maintaining a room for storing and preserving breast milk for female employees raising children under 1 year old.

The corporation also organizes regular gynecological examinations and cancer screenings for approximately 100 female employees each month, at a cost of nearly 100 million VND. On International Women's Day, March 8th, female employees receive gifts.

Thanks to these policies, many female workers feel more cared for, supported, and appreciated. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (born in 1982), a worker at the Corporation, shared: “Having given birth twice, I have received full maternity benefits and dedicated support from the Trade Union and the management. The allowances for raising young children have helped me alleviate some of the economic pressure and feel more secure in my work.”

The work of caring for and listening to the voices of female workers is not only being implemented in large enterprises, but also widely at the grassroots level. According to Nguyen Dinh Trung, Chairman of the Hai Chau Ward Trade Union, in recent times, the ward's Trade Union has organized many practical activities aimed at female union members, especially those in difficult circumstances.

Recently, the ward's Trade Union organized a routine health check-up for 200 female union members and workers in the area. The female members received blood tests, thyroid disease screening, osteoporosis measurements, health consultations, and motivational gifts. "This is not only an activity to care for health but also an opportunity to honor the role of women in labor, production, and in the family," Mr. Trung shared.

During the 2025-2030 term, the Hai Chau Ward Trade Union has identified three breakthrough programs, with a focus on improving the quality of dialogue and collective bargaining. The goal is to increase the rate of signing collective labor agreements with more favorable terms for workers, especially female workers. Simultaneously, the aim is to build a team of trade union officials who are knowledgeable about the law and better able to protect the legitimate rights of union members.

Spreading understanding

Recently, the Da Nang City Federation of Labor, in coordination with the Da Nang Center for Disease Control (CDC), organized a free cervical and breast cancer screening program for 180 female union members from grassroots trade unions in industrial zones. The program provided female workers with the opportunity for free health check-ups, screenings, and consultations. This activity is part of the "For the Health of Female Workers" program for 2025. Female union members received gynecological examinations, cancer risk screenings, preventive advice, and could choose additional specialized services.

Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the City's Labor Union, stated: "Female workers are a vulnerable group, therefore the City's Labor Union always directs all levels of labor unions to strengthen the organization of various appropriate forms of care, from material to spiritual support."

In addition, trade unions at all levels regularly monitor the implementation of policies for female workers, especially pregnant women, women raising young children, or those in special circumstances. They provide support with gifts during holidays, prioritize loans from the Workers' and Civil Servants' Capital Assistance Fund, and support for poor workers, all of which are consistently maintained.

In addition, the City Federation of Labor Unions promotes the "Excellent in work, good at home" emulation movement, creating an environment for female union members to develop their abilities and affirm their roles in agencies and businesses. The movement is widely implemented, contributing to raising awareness of gender equality, encouraging the spirit of learning, self-improvement, and skill enhancement among women in the era of integration.
