The Pho Yen City bus station, with a total investment of nearly 20 billion VND, remains unused and unoperational after many years, resulting in the waste of tens of thousands of square meters of prime land.

The grass grew profusely.

Located adjacent to the old National Highway 3 and built with an investment of 10,000 square meters (total investment capital of nearly 20 billion VND), the Pho Yen Bus Station was completed in 2021 but has not yet been officially put into operation. This results in a waste of investment resources and makes transportation activities in the southern part of the province difficult.

The Pho Yen Bus Station project, which received an investment of nearly 20 billion VND, has yet to become operational.

According to observations by reporters from Giao Thong Newspaper on December 25th, many components of the Pho Yen Bus Station project have been completed, such as the administration building, entrance gates, lighting system, and fire prevention and fighting system.

However, due to years of disuse, the area is overgrown with weeds, and some equipment has rusted, deteriorated, or even broken down.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bay (born in 1966, residing in Tan Huong Ward, Pho Yen City, Thai Nguyen Province) stated: "We residents still have to take buses along the old National Highway 3, which is very inconvenient and unsafe. Meanwhile, the Pho Yen Bus Station, which was built to be spacious and modern, has not yet been put into operation and remains abandoned, causing waste."

What is the reason for this?

The Pho Yen Bus Station project is one of four bus station projects invested by Thai Nguyen Transport Joint Stock Company under the public-private partnership - BOO (build-own-operate) contract model, approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 2606 dated October 10, 2016 and Decision No. 1427 dated June 6, 2017.

On December 24th, Mr. Pham Dang Thien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thai Nguyen Transport Joint Stock Company, stated: According to the plan, the project should have been completed in 2020. However, it wasn't until May 2019 that the investor received the land from the local authorities to begin implementation.

Subsequently, the transportation sector continued to suffer from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to numerous difficulties. Therefore, the project was not completed until 2021.

"Our project has been inspected and approved, but the wharf has not yet been officially announced. The authority to announce the wharf rests with the Thai Nguyen Department of Transport. However, the department said the project's completion time has expired because we were 4 months behind schedule. Two years ago, Thai Nguyen province conducted an inspection, but there has still been no conclusion," Mr. Thien said.

Faced with these difficulties, the investor hopes that the relevant authorities and departments will soon pay attention to and resolve the outstanding issues of the project. This will help the enterprise overcome difficulties and bring the Pho Yen Bus Station into operation soon to serve the people.

Speaking with a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Pham Quang Anh, Director of the Thai Nguyen Department of Transport, said that not only the Pho Yen bus station but also many other bus stations are currently under review, after which they will advise the leadership. "The procedures will be completed soon so that the bus station can be put into operation," Mr. Quang Anh said.
