The domain of MiniLED TVs

For larger-screen TVs, MiniLED remains the preferred choice due to its affordable price and durability.

Besides picture quality, large size remains a popular factor when choosing a TV. Domestic consumers tend to look for larger products, with the current market benchmark being 55 inches. In reality, TV size is directly proportional to the viewing experience. What limits customers is the size of their living room and their budget.

To strike a balance between these two factors, LED technology remains a worthwhile option for consumers. While it has limitations in display capabilities compared to OLED, its durability is proven and the cost is significantly lower. For the same amount of money, consumers can also choose established brands for peace of mind, instead of newer ones.

Recently, LG introduced the QNED86 model, with a maximum size of 100 inches. However, its price is only half that of similarly sized OLED TVs. Besides its large size, the TV still features WebOS, air mouse control, high brightness, and advanced AI capabilities.

What are the advantages of choosing a large TV?

Modern devices still revolve around screens to display content. The need for larger viewing sizes always exists. Technological limitations are what prevent them from expanding further. For example, when a larger phone is needed, manufacturers have to resort to foldable phones. To view content on smaller screens, virtual reality was developed.

To take the experience to a whole new level, people are willing to spend billions of dollars to build the Sphear theater in Las Vegas, which features viewing rooms with screens that fill up to the ceiling.

Therefore, a large screen size is always a priority when choosing a TV, alongside display quality and accompanying technology. The QNED86 model was created to meet this need. Its 100-inch size is suitable for spacious living rooms, mounted on the wall with elegantly concealed cables. Such a product will balance well with a large space and enhance the viewing experience.

In terms of size, the QNED86 will be about 25% larger than a standard 75-inch TV. But in reality, a 100-inch TV doubles the usable screen space.

Large TVs also recreate an "immersive" experience. This feeling is similar to watching a movie in a theater, where the large screen and dark surroundings help focus more on the content and images. This experience can be simulated on LG's 100-inch TV. Similarly, for gaming, fast-paced racing games will feel most realistic when the display covers the entire point of view (POV). With its super-large size, the QNED86 achieves this from a viewing distance of less than 3 meters.

To cater to this customer segment, the TV comes equipped with HDMI 2.1, offering a wider bandwidth than the standard. The QNED86 also boasts a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz, supporting newer consoles and PCs. However, its high response time makes hardcore FPS gaming impractical.

80% OLED quality

LG is renowned as the world's largest seller of OLED TVs. They advertise the superiority of this technology over conventional LED. This doesn't mean their QNED model has poor display capabilities. Unlike conventional LED TVs, the product in question features MiniLED backlighting and the Dynamic QNED Color image solution.

Hundreds of small, adjustable LEDs, powered locally, allow for flexible brightness adjustment across different display areas. Overall, the TV achieves over 1,300 nits, exceeding the standard required for outdoor display. This year, LG didn't use Quantum Dot technology but instead employed a different solution for color processing. The new technology still ensures 100% color gamut coverage, and color fading at high brightness levels is eliminated.

With good display quality, QNED only falls short of OLED in terms of contrast and blooming.

Unless placed next to a high-end OLED TV, users will easily be satisfied with this product's display capabilities. The main difference lies in contrast and black levels. The characteristic vibrancy of OLED partly comes from the extremely high contrast between color ranges. Therefore, TVs using this technology reproduce colors more vividly. In addition, its black is absolute.

These are two points where the QNED86 still falls short. It lacks the "clarity" of the C5 or G5. At the same time, there's still a slight blooming when displaying bright content against a black background. In terms of cost, users have to pay hundreds of millions of VND more for an OLED of comparable size.

With backlighting, the product can't be as ultra-thin as the G5 or M5. However, this slimness isn't a significant inconvenience during use. The size limits the TV's speaker functionality to a level that's adequate but not impressive. High-end users can purchase the manufacturer's soundbar separately, which is designed to be integrated and simulates spatial sound like watching a movie in a theater.

For whom?

Priced at 100 million VND, the QNED86 is a suitable choice for customers needing a large TV for spacious rooms. The product requires a significantly more affordable investment compared to OLED TVs of the same size. Users who choose the new model also receive AI upgrades, a new remote, and WebOS features similar to the more expensive M5 series. LG is also well-known in Vietnam for its excellent after-sales service.

If image quality is a priority, a 75-inch OLED screen like the G5 is a better choice. Alternatively, users also have several MiniLED options from Samsung such as the QN90F or the Sony Bravia 9.
