On May 5th, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (Cyber Security Department) of the Da Nang City Police announced that they are seeking victims of a scam involving the sale of tours, airline tickets, and hotel bookings, resulting in the embezzlement of billions of VND.
Earlier, in early May 2023, the Cyber Security Department identified NTTTr. (25 years old, residing in Loc Ninh district, Binh Phuoc province) as one of the individuals using similar tactics.
Specifically, Tr. used multiple disposable SIM cards, fake Facebook accounts, and fake Zalo accounts to join travel groups, sell airline tickets, and book hotel rooms.
Da Nang welcomed a large number of tourists during the recent April 30th and May 1st holidays.
Here, Tr. searches for customers with needs, then contacts them via text message to understand their requirements. Tr. will then impersonate a travel company, airline ticket office, etc., and provide information about attractive tours in order to steal their deposit money.
To gain the trust of her "customers," Tr. approached travel companies to gather information about prices and company policies, obtained contracts, and then edited and provided fake information and bank accounts to convince tourists to transfer money.
Initially, the Cyber Security Department determined that the suspect had defrauded hundreds of people. Specifically, the fraudulent account belonging to Nguyen Huy Hoang at Vietinbank, which was only created in September 2022, had tens of thousands of transactions totaling billions of VND.
In addition to expanding the investigation into the case, the Da Nang City Police Department is notifying companies and individuals who are victims of the aforementioned fraud to quickly contact the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Prevention Department of the Da Nang City Police Department (specifically officer Pham Hoang Dung - Team 3, address: 80 Le Loi Street, Thach Thang Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang City; Phone: 0694.260.330; Email: doi3anm@danang.gov.vn) to provide information.
