The consortium of the National Institute of Architecture - Nihon Sekkei, Inc (Japan) - CONINCO Construction Technology, Equipment and Inspection Consulting Joint Stock Company won first prize in the competition for the general urban planning concept of Long Thanh Airport and its surrounding areas.
On January 9th, information from the Dong Nai Department of Construction indicated that the unit had submitted a proposal to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for approval of the results of the competition for general urban planning ideas for Long Thanh Airport and its surrounding areas.

Accordingly, the process of announcing the invitation for units to register for the competition, which took place from August 2024 to September 27, 2024, resulted in 11 units registering and meeting all the capacity requirements according to the approved competition regulations.
By December 30, 2024, the Selection Committee was established, heard presentations, and scored the 10 proposals submitted by 10 consulting firms in the second round of the competition (as one consulting firm did not participate).
As a result, the Selection Council chose the design by the consortium of the National Institute of Architecture - Nihon Sekkei, Inc (Japan) - CONINCO Construction Technology, Equipment and Inspection Consulting Joint Stock Company (VIAR-NS-CONINCO consortium) as the first prize winner with an average score of 82.38 points.
Second prize went to the proposal by the consortium of Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. - Urban Design Research Institute - Nippon Koei Vietnam International Co., Ltd. with an average score of 75.38 points.
Third prize went to the joint venture of Nikken Sekkei LTD and the National Institute of Urban and Rural Planning, with an average score of 65.62 points.
The consolation prize was awarded to the consortium of the Southern Institute of Construction Planning - Green Space Architecture and Planning Co., Ltd. - KCAP Architecture and Planning Company - G8A Urban Architecture and Planning Co., Ltd. - Arup Vietnam Co., Ltd., with an average score of 58.15 points.
According to the plan for 2030, Dong Nai province will focus on two areas as new drivers of development. The first area includes: the Long Thanh Airport urban area - completing the transportation infrastructure connecting Long Thanh International Airport with the national and regional highway and railway systems. Developing comprehensive aviation services within the Long Thanh International Airport area.
In Long Thanh district: Develop urban areas in the southwest of Long Thanh International Airport; develop industrial and logistics clusters in the southeast of Long Thanh International Airport, linking with the Cai Mep - Thi Vai seaport's industrial and logistics service system; develop a chain of urban-industrial-service areas along the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, National Highway 51, and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4.
According to the approved plan, Long Thanh urban area will be a city directly under the administration of Dong Nai province. It will play a key role as one of the key urban centers of the Southern dynamic region and the central sub-region of the Southeast region, serving as a driving force for socio -economic development in the central urban area of Dong Nai province.

Long Thanh is an urban area connected to Long Thanh Airport, becoming a gateway region for the nation to the international community.
It serves as a logistics service center supporting Long Thanh Airport; a logistics, warehousing, multi-sector industrial, and high-tech center for the Southeast region of Vietnam.
Furthermore, Long Thanh urban area will serve as a central hub for multimodal transportation and connectivity for the nation, a key development center in the South, the Southeast region, and Dong Nai province. It is also an important area for security and defense in the Southeast region and the entire country.
Regarding the spatial development orientation of Long Thanh urban area, research should focus on a development model and structure that effectively utilizes the advantages of the national and regional infrastructure framework, especially Long Thanh airport, expressways, and urban railways; and strengthen linkages with other urban areas in Dong Nai province and the Southeast region.
