Recently, turmeric has become a high-value economic crop for many households in Minh Ngoc commune. Acting as a "bridge" between producers and the market, the Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative in Minh Ngoc commune has gradually built a linked chain in the production and consumption of turmeric products, contributing to increased income for local people and promoting agricultural economic development.
Expanding the raw material area
Previously, the people of Minh Ngoc commune mainly cultivated turmeric on a small scale and spontaneously, with most of the produce sold to traders, resulting in unstable prices and inconsistent market outlets. Many times, even during bumper harvests, prices would plummet, discouraging farmers from expanding their cultivation area. Recognizing the potential of turmeric and the difficulties faced by farmers in terms of sales, in 2021, the Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative was re-registered in accordance with the Law on Cooperatives, with its main business being the cultivation and production of turmeric starch products.

With the goal of reorganizing production, linking turmeric-growing households into concentrated raw material areas, and simultaneously seeking a stable market for turmeric starch products, the cooperative has actively promoted and encouraged households to participate in production linkages since its inception. The cooperative's management board regularly collaborates with local authorities and the local Department of Agriculture to organize training sessions on planting, caring for, and controlling pests and diseases in turmeric; guiding people to apply safe production processes, gradually improving product quality.
Ms. Tran Thi Sau, Chairwoman and Director of Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, said: “The cooperative has determined that to ensure stable product consumption, we must first create a source of high-quality raw materials. Therefore, the cooperative focuses on encouraging farmers to produce according to established procedures, use good turmeric varieties, and limit the use of pesticides to enhance product value.”
In 2025, the cooperative partnered with 80 households in Minh Ngoc commune and some neighboring areas such as Bac Me, Minh Son, and Yen Cuong to cultivate turmeric on nearly 130 hectares using organic methods. Participating households received support from the cooperative in terms of seeds, technical guidance, and guaranteed purchase of all harvested products.
Thanks to the support of the cooperative, many households have boldly expanded their turmeric cultivation area. The family of Mr. Ly Van Tam in Ngoc Son village previously only planted a few dozen square meters of turmeric intercropped in their garden, selling the product in small quantities, resulting in negligible income. Since joining the cooperative, he has received guidance on cultivation techniques and the cooperative has purchased his turmeric at a stable price, allowing him to confidently expand his area to nearly 1 hectare. Each year, after deducting expenses, his family earns a profit of 90 million VND from turmeric. Not only does this help stabilize the market for the farmers, but the production linkage also helps form a concentrated raw material area, creating conditions for the cooperative to gradually build a brand for the local turmeric product.
Enhance product value, expand market reach.
Besides developing raw material areas, Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative also focuses on investing in machinery and equipment for deep processing, enhancing the value of turmeric products. Instead of just selling fresh turmeric as before, the cooperative has boldly invested in a processing and extraction line for yellow turmeric starch, black turmeric starch, and Nano Curcumin capsules to produce products such as turmeric starch, turmeric powder, and other turmeric-based products. The cooperative's turmeric starch production line has completely recycled 100% of wastewater from production, preventing discharge into the environment; creating a breakthrough in improving the quality and value of high-grade turmeric starch products, meeting the quality demands of consumers inside and outside the province, and contributing to the formation of a high-tech agricultural production chain.
In addition, the cooperative actively participates in trade fairs and trade promotion programs to advertise and introduce its products; strengthening connections with clean agricultural product stores and distribution businesses to expand its consumer market. The cooperative's turmeric starch product has been certified as a Golden Brand of Vietnamese Agriculture by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Agricultural Markets; honored as a typical rural industrial product at the national level; certified as a Top 20 famous brand in Vietnam; and awarded a 4-star OCOP product by the Provincial People's Committee… The methods and results in the production and business activities of the Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Service Cooperative have contributed to elevating the status of local products.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Sau, Chairwoman and Director of Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, to ensure stable and long-term development, the cooperative has specific production and business plans for each year; considering maintaining and improving quality and diversifying products as the top priority; expanding the area of specialized turmeric cultivation; focusing on promotion and linking with businesses and distributors to gradually bring turmeric starch products to domestic and international markets. The cooperative aims to achieve a revenue of 25-30 billion VND in 2026.
Comrade Nguyen Minh Chuong, Vice Chairman of the Minh Ngoc Commune People's Committee, said: "The advantage of growing turmeric is that it doesn't affect the area or yield of traditional agricultural crops because people can still intercrop other crops like corn and peanuts; growing turmeric brings much higher efficiency than growing rice and other crops. Therefore, the commune has identified turmeric as one of the crops with potential for development in the locality; the commune is coordinating with the Ngoc Son Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative to continue promoting and encouraging people to expand the area of turmeric cultivation towards commercial production, linked with consumption."
The proactive approach in organizing production and building supply chains by the Ngoc Son agricultural and forestry cooperative has gradually affirmed its role as a "leading force" in linking agricultural production and consumption in the locality, opening up an effective direction for developing turmeric into a valuable commodity, contributing to agricultural development and shifting the crop structure in Minh Ngoc commune towards sustainability.
