Lisa had the opportunity to perform at the World Cup opening ceremony. |
The 2026 World Cup hasn't even started yet, but the festive atmosphere is heating up every day. According to reports from the British media, FIFA wants to make the tournament in the US, Canada, and Mexico the most spectacular World Cup in history with an unprecedented series of opening ceremonies.
Instead of a traditional pre-opening ceremony, FIFA plans to hold up to three separate opening ceremonies in the three co-hosting countries.
This is seen as a major change aimed at increasing the appeal of the tournament, which is expanding to 48 teams for the first time.
According to The Athletic , Canadian singers Michael Buble, Alanis Morissette, and Alessia Cara will perform at Canada's opening group stage match against Bosnia & Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto.
Also on that day, coach Mauricio Pochettino will lead the US national team against Paraguay at the SoFi Arena near Los Angeles Airport.
Katy Perry is expected to be the main artist at the opening ceremony in the US. Rapper Future and DJ Sanjoy from Los Angeles are also on the list of performers, along with Paraguayan artist Marilina Bogado.
Blackpink's Lisa has also been contacted to perform at the most spectacular opening ceremony in World Cup history.
Mexico, the host nation, will face South Africa on June 11th at the Azteca Stadium. The famous Mexican rock band Mana, singer Alejandro Fernandez, and pop star Belinda will perform in the pre-match show. According to the same source, South African star Tyla will also be in attendance.
This plan marks a significant departure from the traditional model of having only one opening ceremony before the first match.
The 2026 World Cup will take place in 16 cities across North America and will conclude with the final in New York on July 19th.
