On July 27th, at the Binh Hiep International Border Gate (Kien Tuong town), the People's Committee of Long An province held a ceremony to hand over and receive 122 remains of Vietnamese martyrs, volunteer soldiers, and experts who died in Cambodia during various periods of war.
Later, the remains of the martyrs were brought back for a memorial service and burial at the Martyrs' Cemetery in Vinh Hung - Tan Hung district (Long An province) in a solemn atmosphere.
Previously, Team K73 (Long An Provincial Military Command) organized the search and recovery of remains in the provinces of Svay Rieng, Pailin, and Battambang (Cambodia) during the 2022-2023 dry season. Throughout the mission, Team K73 consistently received attention, assistance, and support from the Cambodian government, armed forces, and people.
On behalf of the Party Committee, government, and people of Long An province, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Pham Tan Hoa delivered a eulogy, expressing profound gratitude for the immense sacrifices of the martyrs in the border defense wars, helping Cambodia escape genocide and carrying out the process of renovation, construction, and defense of the Fatherland.
The search, excavation, and repatriation of remains have helped alleviate the pain of the families of martyrs and the people nationwide; demonstrating the national tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source," and contributing to educating the younger generation about love for their homeland.
The leaders of Long An province expressed their gratitude to the Cambodian authorities, people, and armed forces for their active cooperation and support in the search and repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers. They hoped that in the future, Cambodia would continue to strengthen cooperation and assist Long An province in particular and Vietnam in general in the search for the remains of fallen soldiers.
According to the Long An Provincial People's Committee, from 2001 to the present, Team K73 has searched for, exhumed, and repatriated 2,373 sets of remains of martyrs and 6 mass graves (approximately 280 sets of remains) who died in Cambodia, bringing them back to their hometown cemeteries for burial.
