The class was held at the community center of the residential area, coordinated by the Trung Lap 3A Party Cell and volunteers. According to Mr. Phan Van Anh, Secretary of the Trung Lap 3A Party Cell, this year's summer class attracted 20 students, mainly children from disadvantaged families in the area. The students studied two subjects: English and drawing; subjects that both develop thinking and creativity, and bring joy and a healthy playground. "All activities are free, maintained by the spirit of volunteerism and contributions of cadres, party members and volunteers," Mr. Anh shared.
Entering the small room of the community center, it is easy to feel the bustling, warm atmosphere. On white sheets of paper, the children attentively draw each stroke, the crisp laughter resounds amidst the enthusiastic instructions of the teacher. Ms. Pham Thi Nhat Nghi, in charge of the drawing class, said: "Although this is not a professional class, the children have made very fast progress. From the initial scribbles, they now know how to mix colors, create shapes, and arrange the layout. I hope that more young people will join the teaching, helping the class to be more enriching, giving the children more opportunities to access a variety of knowledge and skills."
Not only providing learning opportunities, the class is also a spiritual support for many parents. Ms. Nguyen Nhu Mong, the parent of a child attending the drawing class, said emotionally: "My family does not have the conditions to send my child to gifted classes. Knowing that there is this free class, my child is very happy, every day he wants to come to class early. I am truly grateful to the teachers who implemented this "Zero-Dong Class" model."
Along with the drawing class, the English class also took place enthusiastically, attracting the participation of many students. Teacher Nguyen Tuyet Nhu shared: “The class is divided into two groups: a small class for students from grades 1 to 3, a large class from grades 4 to 5. I always try to incorporate games and songs so that the students can learn while playing, play while learning. The students are very diligent, polite and eager to learn.” According to Ms. Nhu, this is not only a literacy class but also a place to nurture the love of learning, lighting up the faith of children in difficult circumstances. Vo Thi Hong Nhung, an English student happily said: “I really like studying here because it is fun and easy to understand. I learned many new words, and the teacher also taught me to sing in English. I hope the class is held every year so that my friends and I can continue to study.”
Evaluating the model, Mr. Pham Van Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thac Gian Ward, acknowledged that although the classroom does not have the sound of school drums or a large campus, each lesson brings great meaning. Each drawing, each smile, each lesson is proof of a warm summer of humanity. In addition, the "Zero-dong Classroom" model not only helps children gain more knowledge and skills, but also contributes to spreading the spirit of humanity, responsibility, and building a learning society.
