The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has directed schools to continue organizing textbook selection based on the principles of democracy, objectivity, openness, transparency, respect for teachers' professional opinions, for the benefit of students, and for stable use in educational institutions.
The addition and adjustment of textbook lists for general education institutions shall be carried out in accordance with regulations, based on the principle of respecting teachers' professional suggestions.
During the use of textbooks, schools compile and report any content and materials that need adjustment in textbooks for subjects and educational activities (if any), based on teacher contributions, to the Department of Education and Training for compilation and reporting to the Ministry.
Based on the selection criteria stipulated by the Ministry, educational institutions compile their projected textbook needs for the 2025-2026 school year. The Department of Education and Training then provides information on textbook needs for various subjects and educational activities to publishers, organizations, and individuals whose textbooks have been selected, at least four months before the start of the new school year. This aims to ensure timely supply of textbooks in the area, guarantee quality, and prevent delays or shortages before the start of the new school year.
At the same time, there are plans to provide textbook support for students from poor and near-poor households, students from disadvantaged backgrounds, students from policy-eligible groups, and students from vulnerable and disadvantaged circumstances, ensuring they have sufficient textbooks.
Regarding the preparation of textbooks for the new school year, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, requested that schools and district education departments strengthen inspection of the selection and use of textbooks in accordance with the law, promptly correct any violations or shortcomings (if any), and at the same time, promote and commend organizations and individuals who perform well and have effective plans for using textbooks to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
