This spring, the large-scale organic rice and fish farming model in Phu Minh village (Ky Phu commune, Ky Anh district) used 100% ST25 rice variety in production, achieving a yield of 5.2 - 5.4 tons/ha, significantly higher than the spring crop of 2024 (which used ST24 rice and some common rice varieties, with an average yield of only 4.8 - 5 tons/ha).
The current price of rice is 13,000 VND/kg, almost double the usual price. With both a good harvest and high prices, traders are coming directly to the fields to buy the harvested rice.

Village head Hoang Minh Luyen of Phu Minh village shared: “In 2023, implementing Resolution 06 of the province, Ky Phu commune focused on land consolidation and exchange, creating a large 60-hectare model rice field to build an organic rice production model in Phu Minh village, in collaboration with Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company, with nearly 60 households participating. To date, after 5 production seasons, the model has proven quite effective. Each season, the varieties are structured appropriately, such as ST25 being selected for spring production, while the summer-autumn season usually uses Khang Dan and Xuan Mai varieties (to supply raw materials to noodle and cake processing facilities). The production process does not use inorganic fertilizers or pesticides, only organic fertilizers, organic mineral fertilizers, and manure composted with microbial preparations… Thanks to this, the product is always guaranteed to be safe and of high quality.”

Mr. Nguyen Kien Quyet, Chairman of the Ky Phu Commune People's Committee, said: "The locality will continue to encourage people to convert some low-yield areas to organic rice cultivation combined with fish farming to increase productivity, increase income, create a source of safe products, and produce in an environmentally friendly manner; participating in the supply chain of clean, organic agricultural products and OCOP products of the district."
While not as large-scale as in Phu Minh village, the "Organic Rice Production Combined with Earthworm Farming" model in Dau Giang village (Ky Khang commune) is also proving effective in terms of productivity, output, and especially environmental protection. The model was implemented in the spring of 2022, covering 5 hectares with 8 pilot households. By the spring of 2025, the area was expanded to nearly 20 hectares, with 40 households participating in production.

Located in a low-lying area next to the Nha Le canal, the brackish water here used to be home to a considerable number of natural lugworms. However, due to the use of pesticides by local people, lugworms and other aquatic organisms in the rice fields gradually disappeared. Implementing a model with the thorough application of organic farming techniques, after only a few seasons, not only did rice yields and quality improve (from under 40 quintals/hectare to 55 quintals/hectare, with selling prices 2 to 3 times higher), but aquatic organisms in the rice field ecosystem, especially lugworms, gradually reappeared.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huan, one of the households with the largest organic farming area (1.5 hectares) in this region, shared: “After switching to organic farming, the earthworm, which was thought to be extinct, is now appearing in increasing numbers along with other organisms such as fish, shrimp, snails, water beetles, and water striders… This is a motivation for us farmers to be more conscious in agricultural production for a green and sustainable environment.”

This spring, Ky Anh district cultivated over 10,000 hectares of rice, with an estimated yield of 5.5 tons/ha, resulting in a total production of 56,000 tons. Of this, 52.5 hectares in three communes—Ky Phu, Ky Khang, and Ky Phong—received organic certification.
With a focus on introducing new rice varieties into production, although the planted area did not increase, productivity and income increased significantly. In 2024, with the same planted area, the ST24 rice variety and some common rice varieties only yielded an average of 4.8-5 tons/ha. This year, thanks to the predominantly ST25 variety, the yield reached 5.2-5.4 tons/ha, with a total production of over 260 tons and a total value exceeding 3.5 billion VND.
Based on the successful results of organic rice production models, the locality will focus on expanding the area under high-tech, traceable, and organically certified production to enhance competitiveness. At the same time, it will continue to closely cooperate with Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company to form a closed chain from production to preservation and consumption, aiming to increase people's income and ensure environmental hygiene in the fields.
