Apple is the latest name to join the list of tech giants raising product prices due to escalating component costs.
However, despite the recent price increases for its budget-friendly MacBook Neo laptops (now priced at $699) and iPad tablets (now priced at $449), some popular products remain unaffected, most notably the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Other products that also appear to have not increased in price include Apple displays, the Apple Pencil stylus, and accessories such as phone cases and keyboards. Given Apple's citation of a shortage of random access memory (RAM) as the reason for the price increase, it's surprising that iPhones and Apple Watches – essentially miniature computers – have maintained their previous prices.
So why did Apple's two flagship devices and accessories like AirPods wireless headphones escape this price increase? CNET senior editor Scott Stein commented, "They're waiting until the fall to lift that restraint."
Traditionally, Apple announces new products, such as the iPhone, at its September event. Stein speculates that prices will skyrocket upon the launch of the new device, and other products will eventually follow suit.
"I don't think any Apple product will survive this price surge," Stein said. The widespread price increase has led the expert to believe that many devices will become more expensive in the future, especially since most of the company's devices use chips that are in very high demand.
Apple has not commented on this matter.
The future of pricing will depend on supply and chip availability, Stein said. According to reports, Apple has a preliminary chip deal with Intel amid a component crisis and increased demand at its current supplier, TSMC. Whether other products will see price increases is entirely up to Apple.
