Despite aiming for around 2,000 orders per month, Mazda received over 10,000 orders for the new-generation CX-5 in Japan just one month after its launch.
This result demonstrates the unexpectedly strong appeal of Mazda's flagship SUV, and reflects the positive customer reception of the design direction and upgrades in the third generation.

The CX-5 is currently Mazda's best-selling model in history, with cumulative sales exceeding 5 million units by the end of 2025 after 14 years on the market. However, the Japanese automaker admits it did not anticipate the strong growth rate of the new generation.
According to Mazda, the customer base for the new CX-5 is quite diverse, ranging from young first-time car owners to older customers.
Sales data shows a clear trend towards choosing the higher-end version. The top-of-the-line L version accounts for 65% of total orders, while the G version reaches 32%. The standard S version accounts for only about 3%.
In terms of personalization, although Soul Red Crystal was widely used in promotional campaigns, about 25% of customers chose Rhodium White – an option priced at 55,000 yen (approximately 9.5 million VND). Inside the cabin, the Sports Tan interior color was also popular, appearing on nearly 40% of L-version models.

Notably, these positive sales results were achieved despite the fact that the model had previously sparked controversy for removing the physical climate control panel and not offering a self-charging hybrid powertrain from the time of its launch.
Mazda says users appreciate the more spacious rear seat, the larger door opening for easier child seat installation, and the ability to fold the rear seats flat to expand the usable space. The 15.6-inch central infotainment screen has also received positive feedback.

In Japan, the Mazda CX-5 is currently only offered with a 2.5L e-SkyActiv mild-hybrid gasoline engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front-wheel drive or AWD.
The price of the Mazda CX-5 in Japan ranges from 3.3 million yen to 4.306 million yen (approximately 540-706 million VND). This SUV competes directly with rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Subaru Forester.
In Vietnam, the new generation Mazda CX-5 is expected to go on sale from the end of this year. Meanwhile, the older version currently being sold remains the best-selling C-segment SUV in the market, with cumulative sales of nearly 7,000 units in the first five months of 2026.
