Defender Harry Maguire is worried that VAR will disallow his decisive goal against Lyon in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on the morning of April 18th.

Maguire became the hero when he scored the winning goal in the 120+1 minute, helping Manchester United come from behind to win 5-4 against Lyon in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. However, before celebrating, the central defender had to wait for VAR confirmation of the goal due to a suspected foul in a challenge with Moussa Niakhate.

Speaking to TNT Sports , Maguire said: "I think he (Niakhate) was backing up and I chose to restrain him with my left hand. There was contact, but I don't think it was enough to call it a foul. I saw the ball and aimed it for the far corner."

Sharing more about the decisive goal, the English center-back said: "Lyon's fourth goal was a big blow. But as soon as we scored the fourth, I felt there would be more opportunities and luckily the ball came right to me, and I put it in the net. It felt amazing."

Coach Ruben Amorim also commented on the decision to move Maguire up to play as a striker: "He's the only one who can score with his head," the former Sporting CP coach said.

Before the match, Joshua Zirkzee was confirmed out for the rest of the season due to injury. Manchester United's lineup against Lyon lacked genuine goalscorers. Rasmus Hojlund started but failed to score or provide an assist in 87 minutes. This forced Amorim to find ways to increase attacking power and put pressure on the opponent for the remainder of the match.

Following this victory, MU will advance to the semi-finals to face Athletic Bilbao. This is an opportunity for the "Red Devils" to continue pursuing their ambitions of winning the Europa League this season.
