Gianluigi Donnarumma 's future is likely to end at PSG when the 2025 summer transfer window closes on September 1st.
Coach Luis Enrique decided to give the starting spot to newcomer Lucas Chevalier – the French goalkeeper bought from Lille for 40 million euros – leaving Donnarumma out of the European Super Cup squad.

Donnarumma, whose contract runs until 2026, has rejected an extension offer that includes a pay-based increase based on appearances and performance, while PSG are unwilling to see him sit on the bench for the entire season.
As soon as he learned that Chevalier would be the starting goalkeeper, the 25-year-old considered moving to the Premier League – an environment he had previously expressed interest in.
MU had previously contacted Donnarumma's team to inquire about the situation. Now, Man City has also joined the negotiations – at the request of Pep Guardiola.
Some sources indicate that Man City is clearly ahead of MU in the race to sign the Italian goalkeeper.
City are willing to pay around 40 million euros – close to the 50 million euros PSG are demanding – which is higher than the previous offer from MU.
Furthermore, Man City are contenders for the 2025/26 Premier League title and will also be participating in the Champions League. This is a disadvantage for MU.
Recently, Pep Guardiola said that he admires Donnarumma. Therefore, despite buying James Trafford, Man City still prioritizes signing the Italian national team captain.
The signing of Donnarumma will upgrade the quality of Man City, ensuring their chances of competing for the English football championship as well as the Champions League.
PSG don't want to lose Donnarumma like they did with Kylian Mbappe last year. Therefore, this is a golden opportunity for Man City to upgrade their goalkeeping position.
Conversely, Man City is expected to agree to sell Ederson to Galatasaray.
