A view of Hien Luong Bay
Located just about 100km from Hanoi , Hoa Binh Lake has long been dubbed the "Ha Long Bay on land" of Northern Vietnam. Hien Luong Bay, a branch of the lake, perfectly embodies the beauty of mountains, water, and sky. Returning to Hien Luong Bay in early November, the air is cool, the sun warm, and the sky unusually clear. The wide concrete road from the center of Da Bac commune leading to Ke hamlet – the starting point of the bay – is now much more convenient, opening up a space of water and sky.
At the gateway to Hien Luong Bay, where the natural scenery is most abundant, a number of dedicated investors have begun creating high-class resort spaces that respect and blend seamlessly with nature. Prominent among them is Mit Retreat – an eco-resort that has quickly won the hearts of even the most discerning travelers.
Having received investment in recent years, Mít Retreat fully capitalizes on the bay's unique cloud and water scenery. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung, Director of Mít Retreat, shared that after initial difficulties, this tourist destination is gradually establishing its position and leaving a deep impression on domestic and international tourists.

Businesses collaborate to organize sports activities on Hien Luong Bay.
Mít Retreat is not just a place to relax, but also a space for creativity, an ideal destination for workshops and networking. Guests here enjoy not only professional and friendly service but also immerse themselves in a unique architectural space. Ms. Huong Giang and her group from Hanoi, who recently spent 2 days and 1 night here, shared: "I was impressed by the pristine natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The resort is nestled amidst vast mountains and forests, offering a feeling of complete separation from the hustle and bustle of city life. From the balcony, I could admire the panoramic view and feel absolute tranquility."
Another highlight that makes Mít Retreat so appealing is the authentic Muong culinary experience. With fresh, mostly self-supplied ingredients, the resort's restaurant offers dishes rich in local flavors. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang, a guest, commented: "The restaurant has a stunning lake view and a spacious atmosphere. The menu is diverse; I especially liked the Da Bac specialties like grilled stream fish with chili and salt, and boiled free-range chicken with lime leaves. Everything was very fresh and delicious. It was truly a memorable meal."
The allure of Hien Luong Bay extends beyond just Mit Retreat. A thriving tourism ecosystem is gradually emerging in the area, featuring Xoan Retreat, Mo Vile, and local community-based homestays such as Huu Thao Homestay and Sanh Thuan. These establishments share a common thread: systematic and professional investment, high-quality accommodations and recreational areas, and, most importantly, a commitment to respecting nature.
They not only provide accommodation but also create a strong network of connections with local households. Tourists can easily arrange cultural and artistic activities, culinary experiences, or book a boat trip to explore the lake. Along the lake are charming cafes, safe swimming spots, and ideal photo opportunities.
Xóm Ké, with its mostly peaceful Muong ethnic households, still retains its pristine natural beauty and traditional cultural identity. Visitors come here not only for relaxation but can also start a new day by kayaking or rafting on the tranquil lake, feeling the freshness of the early morning. Or try a day as a fisherman, joining the locals in harvesting rice and catching fish and shrimp.
Mr. Huu Thao, the owner of a homestay, proudly introduces: Tourists can choose to explore the old-growth forest on foot or by bicycle, ride an off-road motorbike to Sung village of the Dao people (Cao Son commune) 22km away, or go upstream along the crystal-clear Ke stream to both cool off and catch stone crabs.
Cuisine is an indispensable part of the experience. Local OCOP (One Commune One Product) products such as shrimp, fish from the Da River, and indigenous black pigs, transformed by the skilled hands of the Muong people into surprisingly delicious rustic dishes: grilled fish, buffalo meat with lalom leaves, free-range chicken, and wild spinach... As night falls, around the flickering campfire, everyone gathers to enjoy rice wine, immerse themselves in the rhythmic gong and drum dances, and feel the absolute peace of the mountains and forests.
Recognizing the immense potential of its natural landscape and cultural diversity, Da Bac commune is actively attracting investment while focusing on improving infrastructure, especially key transportation routes. In particular, it is accelerating the progress of the lakeside road from Vay Nua to Tien Phong, which is expected to create favorable conditions and pave the way for tourism in the lake area to flourish.
Hien Luong Bay, with its harmonious blend of majestic natural beauty and unique Muong cultural identity, is becoming an unmissable destination on the Hoa Binh tourism map. It offers not only a relaxing vacation but also a journey back to nature, a journey of pristine, poetic, and memorable experiences.
