Mbappe clarifies reports that Real Madrid made a mistake in treating his injury. |
Mbappe insists that Real Madrid's doctors made no mistake in diagnosing his injury back in December.
During a press conference with the French national team, the striker emphasized: "The information that they mistakenly examined my knee is incorrect."
Mbappe believes the misunderstanding was partly due to his communication style: "Perhaps I indirectly caused this, because when you don't explain clearly, you let others misinterpret. With Real Madrid, we always communicate very clearly, both in Madrid and Paris, where I always have a doctor and physiotherapist with me."
The French striker suffered a left knee injury in the match against Celta on December 7th at the Bernabeu. Two days later, he underwent an MRI scan.
However, according to some sources, when analyzing the images, the medical team mistakenly assessed the right knee, which was not affected, and subsequently announced that he was not injured.
However, the persistent pain prevented Mbappe from playing in the match against Manchester City three days later. Between December 14th and 20th, he still played the full 90 minutes in three matches, believing that his left knee was fine.
Mbappe scored 4 goals during this period and equaled Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 59 goals in a calendar year at Real Madrid.
However, the pain didn't go away. After the Christmas break, Mbappe returned to training on December 30th but was unable to complete the session. A subsequent check-up confirmed he had sprained his left knee. In fact, Mbappe suffered a minor tear of the posterior cruciate ligament, requiring approximately three weeks of recovery.
Mbappe's condition continued to be complicated. He missed several matches, then went to Paris for a follow-up check-up with head of medical department Niko Mihic. On March 8th, the striker returned after receiving a new treatment plan from doctor Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet in Lyon.
