Decorating conical hats - fun activities to experience during Tet.

Memories of the countryside and traditional flavors

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, Kim Long ward is busily preparing for the program "Kim Long Tet - Where Tradition Shines," to be held from February 7th to 10th. The preparations are not limited to organizational tasks, but also include reviving familiar Tet activities, deeply rooted in the memories and long-standing lifestyles of the local people.

According to Mr. Le Van Thin, Vice Chairman of the Kim Long Ward People's Committee, the program is expected to be an opportunity to recreate traditional Tet activities that have been closely associated with the lives of Kim Long residents for many generations. From the Tet sweets tray and the pot of steaming banh chung (traditional rice cakes) to traditional crafts, everything will be showcased in a space imbued with the spirit of the countryside along the Perfume River.

Kim Long aims to create a Tet (Lunar New Year) space that is both intimate and culturally profound, where residents and tourists can rediscover the slow, warm rhythm of Tet amidst the increasingly hectic urban life. Competitions in making jam, wrapping and cooking banh chung and banh tet (traditional Tet cakes) are expected to bring together representatives from various residential areas, emphasizing interaction, connection, and the transmission of traditional Tet values.

Simultaneously, stalls displaying local products were carefully selected, prioritizing traditional products for Tet such as ginger jam, printed cakes, incense, palm leaf hats, ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), fine wood carvings, and local agricultural products. The organizers set clear requirements regarding product origin, public price listing, and environmental friendliness, aiming for a green and civilized Tet atmosphere.

What Kim Long particularly values this Tet season is the community aspect. Products from experiential activities and competitions will be offered to the recognized historical village temples: Kim Long Temple, Xuan Hoa Temple, and Van Xuan Temple; and will also be shared with poor and near-poor households in the area. Tet, therefore, is not only a time for family reunions but also a time to spread the spirit of mutual support and compassion.

Phu Xuan with its "Imperial Flavors" atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Phu Xuan ward is urgently preparing for the "Phu Xuan Tet - The Flavors of the Imperial City" program, taking place from February 2nd to 8th, featuring a traditional Tet atmosphere with the imprint of the imperial capital, contributing to promoting the heritage land of Phu Xuan to locals and tourists.

The event space stretches from Thuong Bac Park to the Quoc Tu Giam area, Ham Nghi Square, and the August 23rd Street – landmarks deeply connected to the history, culture, and urban life of Hue . The selection of these locations aims to facilitate visits and experiences, transforming heritage sites into vibrant backdrops for Tet celebrations.

Ms. Vo Thi Phuong Khanh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Phu Xuan Ward People's Committee, said that this year's program is themed "The Flavors and Colors of the Imperial City," emphasizing two core elements that make up the identity of Hue's Tet (Lunar New Year). "Colors" are expressed through the decorative space inspired by the imperial court, flower carpets, New Year's mascots, and traditional ao dai dresses amidst heritage landscapes. "Flavors" are the essence of Hue's cuisine, from traditional jams and cakes to familiar dishes on the spring feast table.

A highlight of "The Flavors of the Imperial City" is the series of free traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) experience activities, allowing locals and tourists to participate directly: wrapping banh chung and banh tet (traditional rice cakes), making Tet jam, calligraphy, making clay figurines, and playing folk games.

“Phu Xuan also hopes that through Tet activities, the image of the ancient capital, a place where tangible and intangible heritage converges, will be introduced in a more intimate and vivid way. Instead of just ‘admiring’ the heritage, people and tourists will be able to ‘live within the heritage,’ experiencing Tet in a historical space that is closely associated with the life of the ancient Imperial Citadel,” Ms. Khanh said.

A highlight to look forward to is the series of community art programs held at the Quoc Tu Giam heritage site. This is a perfect blend of traditional art forms and contemporary music , both dignified and fresh, suitable for a wide range of audiences, especially young people.
