“ Mimosa where do you come from, mimosa why do you come to this land. Dalat has rolling hills, Dalat has vast sky, clouds and water…”. The lyrics of the song keep humming in my mind every time the mimosa blooms.
This year, the wind and rain were favorable, so the mimosa bloomed beautifully. The whole of Da Lat was golden, like a "mountain girl" resplendent in a bright yellow dress, strangely charming!

The legend of mimosa tells that, long ago, in the beautiful country of Australia, there was a beautiful couple who loved each other deeply and vowed to live together for the rest of their lives. He was a poor fisherman's son, muscular, dark-skinned, intelligent, and the most talented in the area. She was the daughter of a wealthy noble family, with white skin, blonde hair, and extremely beautiful and kind. But then, her parents forced her to marry a noble count.
After many unsuccessful refusals, she had to give up on her fate. When he heard that she was about to get married, he quietly went to the mountains to work as a forest ranger to try to forget his hopeless love. One day, a fierce fire broke out, he ignored the danger, rushed into the fire to save the forest and the poor kangaroos. He worked so hard to put out the fire that he fainted and was burned to the ground without realizing it.
Hearing that he had left the sea for the forest, on their wedding night she ran away to find her lover. But when she arrived, she only found his body in ashes. She cried bitterly day and night until she was exhausted, then collapsed and died beside him. Years passed, and at the place where the couple died, a strange tree with green leaves and sparkling yellow flowers grew. Moved by the love of the couple, the locals named the flower mimosa - a beautiful name!
Mimosa flowers are considered a symbol of faithful and eternal love. Nowadays, lovers give each other mimosa flowers to affirm their lifelong fidelity. Dalat girls often press mimosa flowers in books to give to their lovers to express their purity and fidelity.

Mimosa ( scientific name Mimosaceae) was introduced to Da Lat more than 100 years ago. In Vietnam, only mimosa grown in Da Lat blooms. Mimosa usually blooms all year round, but blooms most in the dry season (from October to April of the following year). Mimosa flowers are spherical, golden yellow like silk, with clusters of buds, blooming one batch after another. Admiring mimosa flowers at any time is beautiful, but admiring them under the moonlight is the most beautiful, because of their shimmering, magical appearance.

In Da Lat, there is a road named after the flower “Mimosa”. That is the 10 km long Mimosa Pass, the southern gateway of Da Lat (parallel to Prenn Pass). From an imported flower, until now mimosa has become associated with the land of Da Lat. In the mountain town, mimosa is planted everywhere, in parks, schools, churches, pagodas, offices, villas, tourist areas... to beautify the city. Many artisans in Da Lat have also created a very unique mimosa bonsai, bringing high economic value.
“I already know, my dear, because you love life up high, with the rustling pine trees. Because you love Cam Ly waterfall, like life is surging. Because you love Xuan Huong lake, love the city of flowers, which has captivated our hearts. Mimosa... you mimosa... Mimosa flowers” - the song “Mimosa” by musician Tran Kiet Tuong has touched many hearts that love Da Lat...
