Netizens are urging parents to go to the school to inspect and rectify the quality of the school meals. Ms. Phan Thi Tuyet Lan, Principal of Nui Thanh Primary School, stated that the information and images posted online were of a meal served on March 25th. According to her, the image was actually taken before the school supervisor had finished distributing the food for that day's meal.
Following this, social media reappeared with posts and photos "exposing" the school lunch at Phu Dong Primary School (also in Hai Chau District, Da Nang City), which featured rice consisting of only a few pieces of okra, a watery soup, a slice of watermelon, and half a banana for dessert. Ms. Truong Thi Nha Truc, the principal of Phu Dong Primary School, stated that the images of the meal were taken in October 2024, before the meal portions had been fully distributed. According to Ms. Truc, although the okra stuffed with meat dish appeared to contain only two okra pods, the amount of minced meat was still sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of the students.
Parents repeatedly complain about poor quality of school lunches; Da Nang police launch an investigation.
The images of meal trays at the two primary schools were identified as not being recent, and school principals explained that the food had not yet been distributed. However, this incident reveals that many parents are still unaware of the information and images of their children's meals. In fact, some schools don't even send out menus, let alone actual photos of meals, despite having online chat groups with parents.
With current technology, information between schools and parents can be easily shared, allowing for transparent reporting of school meals through images. In this way, if parents find a meal lacking in nutrition, they can immediately voice their concerns through images without having to remain anonymous and use social media to express their opinions.
