Minh Dai continues the season of abundant harvests.

As the morning mist still lingered, the rice fields of Minh Dai commune, already turning a lemon-yellow, buzzed with the sounds of harvesting machines and the laughter and chatter of farmers as they began their spring harvest. A bountiful harvest not only brought full rice paddies but also instilled hope for an increasingly prosperous and comfortable life in this highland region.

By planting early rice according to the correct planting schedule, Mr. Dinh Cong Doi's family in Choc area has now harvested more than 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of the spring rice crop and is urgently preparing the land for the summer crop following the principle of "preparing the land immediately after harvesting." While turning over the golden rice grains in the yard, Mr. Doi happily shared: "This year, my family planted the Nhi Uu 838 variety and followed the technical guidelines, so the yield is estimated at about 2.6 quintals per sao. Thanks to consistently good harvests, my family not only ensures food security but also has by-products for livestock farming, and our lives are becoming increasingly stable."

According to Mr. Doi, agricultural production today is very different from the past, with the widespread application of science and technology, and people being given favorable conditions to develop their economy and rise out of poverty.

This year's spring crop saw Minh Dai commune planting 410 hectares of rice, achieving 100% of the plan; the estimated yield reached 59.7 quintals/hectare, with a total production of approximately 2,447.7 tons, an increase of 41 tons compared to the same period last year. In addition, nearly 80 hectares of corn yielded over 43 quintals/hectare, with a total production of about 340 tons. In recent years, ethnic minority communities have gradually changed their production mindset, expanding the area of vegetable crops to increase their income. This spring crop alone saw the commune planting nearly 78 hectares of various green vegetables with a production of over 1,000 tons. The 129 hectares of cassava cultivation continues to be maintained, contributing to ensuring a food source for livestock.

Taking advantage of its hilly and forested land, the commune focuses on developing tea cultivation – the locality's main crop. Currently, the entire commune has more than 2,263 hectares of tea, of which more than 2,223 hectares are being harvested. The sprawling tea hills are entering the second harvest season, promising a yield of nearly 7,500 tons. In addition, the locality continues to plant and replant 10 hectares of tea to improve the quality of the raw material area.

Along with tea, approximately 90 hectares of fruit trees, mainly pomelos, are being intensively cultivated by the local people to ensure good growth and development during the fruit-bearing stage. This year's reforestation season in Minh Dai saw the completion of 477 hectares of new forest, exceeding 115% of the plan, and the planting of 28,000 scattered trees, contributing to maintaining forest cover at over 36.6%.

The 2,223 hectares of tea plantations currently being harvested provide a stable source of income, helping many families in Minh Dai to live comfortably.

In addition to expanding production scale, Minh Dai commune also focuses on improving the quality and value of agricultural products. The entire commune currently has 151 concentrated tea growing areas covering over 1,510 hectares; and 2 concentrated rice production areas covering 45 hectares. Notably, over 198 hectares have been certified with the global sustainable agriculture and forestry standard of the Rainforest Alliance; and over 18 hectares of pomelo trees have received VietGAP certification. The locality has also been granted 23 tea growing area codes covering over 51 hectares, creating favorable conditions for consumption and market expansion.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thong, an official from the Economic Department of Minh Dai commune, said: "In recent years, local agricultural production has undergone positive changes towards modernization, increasing the value of goods. The commune has promoted the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge, supported production services, and promoted mechanization in land preparation, irrigation, harvesting, and transportation... Currently, the system of 71 irrigation works in the area basically meets the irrigation needs for production, contributing to increased crop yields."

Building upon a stable agricultural production foundation, many new economic models are gradually emerging and proving effective, such as the production and processing of high-quality green tea; intensive fruit cultivation; salt-cured chicken production; processing of forest flower honey; and the cultivation of medicinal plants under the forest canopy. This creates jobs, increases people's income, and contributes to the sustainable development of the rural economy.

Mr. Nguyen Thiet Hai, Vice Chairman of the Minh Dai Commune People's Committee, affirmed: "Agriculture continues to be identified as the top priority of the locality. In the coming time, the commune will focus on effectively exploiting potential and advantages, creating breakthroughs in the development of commercial agriculture; at the same time, creating favorable conditions for economic sectors to invest in agriculture and rural areas, increasing the value of key and distinctive local products. In the immediate future, Minh Dai is determined to successfully implement the 2026 Summer and Winter crop seasons with the goal of planting 490 hectares of rice, achieving a yield of over 55 quintals/hectare; planting 159 hectares of corn with a production of approximately 676 tons; and 106 hectares of vegetables with a production of approximately 1,420 tons."

Golden rice paddies stretching from one season to the next, lush green tea hills covering the mountain slopes, and the diligent work of the local people are creating a new face for the Minh Dai highlands. From abundant harvests, the belief in a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainably developing homeland is becoming increasingly real.
