Around 7 a.m., as the machines in the sewing lines of Lan Lan Garment Co., Ltd. prepare to operate, Ms. Dang Thi Thuy Linh takes her two young children to the preschool located within the company premises. After a few minutes of entrusting her children to the teachers, she confidently enters the production workshop to begin her shift. Then, in the late afternoon, she happily holds her two children's hands as they leave the company after their shift ends to go home. This rhythm of life has become familiar to her over the years. Ms. Linh confided: "We factory workers often go to work early and come home late. Sending our children to outside facilities is difficult because the pick-up times are usually fixed, while production work sometimes requires overtime or unexpected tasks. Children finishing school early and not being able to pick them up in time also poses many worries. Since the children study right in the company, they stay with the teachers until I work. I feel very reassured because my children are always close to me and are well cared for by the teachers." That's what makes us feel happy and secure, allowing us to focus on our work.
Ms. Dang Thi Thuy Linh is not alone; most employees with young children at Lan Lan Garment Co., Ltd. choose to send their children to the company's daycare center. On average, about 40 children are cared for, nurtured, and educated there each year. The company organizes two groups of classes: one for children aged 1 to 2 years old and another for children aged 3 to 4 years old. When they reach the age to prepare for first grade, the children are transferred to local public schools.
Entering the nursery within the company grounds, one immediately notices the cheerful atmosphere of the children, along with neatly arranged learning and play areas suitable for each age group. In addition to preschool-level learning activities, the children also participate in singing, dancing, group games, outdoor activities, and company field trips. Nutrition is also a top priority, with a publicly available daily menu ensuring a balanced intake of nutrients for holistic development. Teacher Nguyen Thi Yen, the head of the class, stated: "The teachers arrive at 6:30 AM to welcome the children, aligning with the workers' schedules. Each day, the children receive full meals according to the established nutritional plan. Even when parents work overtime, the teachers continue to care for the children and provide supplementary milk. The school assesses the children's health and nutritional status every three months." Overall, the children are developing well, are healthy, and are adapting well to the learning environment here.
Behind the bustling classrooms filled with the sounds of children lies the persistent effort of the company over the past 15 years. For a garment manufacturing company, maintaining a daycare center is not simply about setting up a few classrooms; it also requires investment in facilities, equipment, learning materials, nutrition, and a team of qualified teachers. The challenges are even greater because the company is not an educational institution and lacks a dedicated department to manage this area. However, the Board of Directors and the Company's Trade Union remain determined to maintain the model, hoping to create the best possible working conditions for employees. Mr. Bui Gia Hiep, Head of Human Resources and Chairman of the Trade Union of Lan Lan Garment Co., Ltd., affirmed: "Maintaining a daycare center within the company has many difficulties, but we consider it a necessary step to help employees feel secure in their work. The company does not charge any fees other than the children's meals." Every year, based on the guidelines of the education sector, the company invests in supplementing books, school supplies, and equipment to ensure the best learning environment for children. When employees bring their children to work, they save time and money, and most importantly, they are always enthusiastic and focused on their work because their children are being educated and cared for attentively right next to them.
From practical experience, the company recognizes that the value this model brings cannot be measured by immediate figures. When employees are relieved of the worry of childcare, they can focus on their work and are willing to commit to the company long-term. For the company, this is the foundation for maintaining a stable workforce, reducing labor turnover, and building a humane working environment. The Lan Lan Garment Company's daycare center has become a support for hundreds of worker families, affirming that caring for employees is both a responsibility and a sustainable investment in the company's development.
