At Vo Thi Sau Primary School in Khanh Hoa commune, U Minh district, every classroom has a cute little piggy bank. Every day, students take turns "feeding the piggy bank," not with food, but with love wrapped in small bills. In the 2024-2025 school year alone, the "Saving Piggy Banks for the Poor" model here raised over 29 million VND, supporting 38 students: some received bicycles so they didn't have to walk 5 kilometers to school, others received new textbooks to replace worn-out pages, and some received intact uniforms so they could confidently participate in flag ceremonies.
Students at Vo Thi Sau Primary School in Khanh Hoa commune, U Minh district, are saving their loose change in piggy banks – a humane activity aimed at helping underprivileged friends continue their education.
Nguyen Thi Ha Linh, a student in Class 5A2, smiled brightly: “I am very proud to study at a school named after the heroine Vo Thi Sau. Among the many meaningful activities organized by the teachers, I am most impressed with the piggy bank savings campaign. Although we only contribute small amounts, each class and each student wholeheartedly takes care of their piggy bank. When the piggy bank is full, it's time for love to be shared, helping disadvantaged students have more books and school supplies. I hope this campaign will continue to spread, so that small acts of kindness can continue to create great things.”
Mr. Le Hoang Deo, a teacher at Vo Thi Sau Primary School, shared: “Every time we break open the piggy bank and see the children cheering with joy, I am deeply moved. This is not just a competition, but a journey of sowing love and nurturing character in students from the simplest things.”
In implementing the annual work program of the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union Council, right from the beginning of the school year, the Youth Union Councils of districts and cities have developed and launched the "Saving Piggy Bank" movement among all members, young pioneers, teachers, and parents. The activity quickly received enthusiastic support, aiming to help poor students, those with particularly difficult circumstances, and to reward those with outstanding achievements. Therefore, "Saving Piggy Bank" is not just a simple savings movement, but also a vivid lesson in compassion. Every penny collected by the children each day, from breakfast money to small rewards, carries with it love and sharing.
Not only the "Piggy Bank" movement, but also the "Small Plan" movement has been widely implemented by the school's youth organizations. Scrap paper, beer cans, soda cans, or plastic bottles—things that adults easily discard—become valuable assets in the hands of the children. At Hang Vinh Primary School in Nam Can District, the story of Son Khanh Huy, a Khmer ethnic student in class 2A2, moved many teachers to tears. His family is in difficult circumstances, without land for farming, living in a temporary house, and his parents work as laborers to make ends meet. He once considered dropping out of school because he didn't have enough money to buy books. It was the small change from his friends—some contributing 1,000 dong, others 2,000 dong—and the "Small Plan" movement that gathered together the money for him to continue attending school.

“When I received the bicycle, textbooks, and school supplies, I was so happy I almost cried. I felt so sorry for my friends, and I promised to study hard so that I could help others in the future,” Son Khanh Huy said shyly.
Mr. Trinh Hoang Tham, Head of the Youth Union at Hang Vinh Primary School, said: “These humane models of saving and sharing not only help disadvantaged students alleviate their material burdens, but also nurture in them a spirit of compassion, love, and sharing. Through each small action, the children learn to live responsibly, mature in their thinking, and spread good values to their friends around them. This movement is like a smoldering fire, quietly igniting the spirit of self-awareness and solidarity in each class, where great things are being sown from the pure hearts and sincere souls of the children.”
From small initiatives like "Small Plans" and "Saving Money in Piggy Banks," a great value is quietly fostering a spirit of sharing in each student. In the 2024-2025 school year, 56 student teams in U Minh and Nam Can districts implemented this model, raising over 400 million VND to support more than 530 disadvantaged students in overcoming difficulties and excelling in their studies.
Ms. Quách Cẩm Tú, Chairwoman of the U Minh District Youth Council, commented: “Over the years, the District Youth Council has always paid special attention to implementing the 'Small Plan' movement in 100% of the youth teams throughout the district. What makes this movement so valuable is not the amount of money donated, but the spread of compassion and the spirit of sharing among students. Every scrap of paper, every coin not only contributes to supporting students to go to school, but also serves as proof of a generation growing up with hearts that know how to love and live for each other. That is the greatest success of the movement.”
These exemplary models, though simple, are full of humanity, becoming a bridge of love between students, giving strength to young minds to overcome their circumstances and continue pursuing their dreams of going to school. This is the result of close cooperation between schools, parents, and the Youth Union in educating character and nurturing the souls of today's children.
