Opening up livelihood opportunities to help poor households.

Over the past period, Dak Lieng commune has implemented many programs to support livestock breeding... helping people build effective livestock farming models, increase income, and rise out of poverty sustainably.

With timely support, the family of Ms. H Boăn Hmok (Tría village) now has a solid "fishing rod" to rise up, gradually improving their lives and aiming for sustainable poverty alleviation. As a near-poor household with poor health, Ms. H Boăn Hmok spends most of her time with her daughter's family; the economic burden makes life difficult for the family.

In 2024, through the local livelihood support program for poor and near-poor households, Mrs. H Boan's family received a breeding cow. "When I received the cow, I was so happy. Although my health isn't good, I still try my best every day to cut grass and tend to the cow. Luckily, after only a few months of care, the cow became pregnant, and now the calf is two months old," Mrs. H Boan shared.

After more than a year of care, the breeding cows belonging to Mrs. H Boăn Hmok's household have grown well and have given birth to calves.

Sharing her joy, Ms. H Bi Hmok, daughter of Ms. H Boan, couldn't hide her emotion: "For a long time, we've wanted to have breeding cows to raise, because there's plenty of straw and weeds around our house that we can use as feed. When the local authorities provided us with cows, everyone in the family was overjoyed and saw it as a great opportunity to change our lives." Raising cows doesn't cost much because the family makes the most of the readily available food sources in their fields and rice paddies; in addition, they utilize the cow manure to fertilize crops, helping to improve the soil and increase productivity and yield.

In June 2025, the family of Ms. H Dưn Hmok (Tría village) received 7 hybrid pigs. Since then, she has found a stable path in livestock farming. Previously, her family's income mainly depended on a small plot of land behind their house and a few free-range pigs, making life extremely difficult. With the government's support in providing pigs, her family saved up to build a barn for more systematic farming.

Ms. H Dưn Hmok is delighted that her pig herd is thriving.

Ms. H. Dưn and her children persevered in learning, attending training courses, and acquiring knowledge about effective pig farming methods. In addition, she utilized leftover rice and planted some sweet potato leaves and bananas to supplement feed and reduce farming costs. After just over 5 months, the pigs thrived, remained disease-free, and each pig, initially weighing less than 10 kg, now weighs around 70 kg. Recently, Ms. H. Dưn sold 4 pigs, earning over 16 million VND. Ms. H. Dưn happily stated, “The change in farming methods has helped stabilize our family's economy. Raising pigs in proper pens and applying systematic techniques has resulted in a healthy herd.”

Besides receiving support with livestock, Ms. H. Dưn's family also boldly borrowed policy-based capital to invest in caring for coffee plants and raising chickens and ducks.

To help people develop their economy, the Dak Lieng commune government not only provides livestock but also collaborates with specialized agencies to provide technical training and guidance on animal care and disease prevention. As a result, many households have boosted their livestock farming, creating a foundation for long-term economic development.
