According to Bang Nhi, in the sixth grade, she and Pham Quang Hoai were classmates and became close friends. That's how Nhi learned about her friend's circumstances.

"At that time, through the story of Hoai's close friend, I learned that her mother left when she was young, and her father was ill. Her mother only came to visit her for a few days during Tet (Lunar New Year). Therefore, from childhood to adulthood, Hoai and her older brother were raised by their paternal grandparents. Recently, my mother came home from a parent-teacher meeting and told me she met Hoai's grandmother. Her grandmother said that her grandfather now has cancer, and the family is facing financial difficulties, so Hoai's education might have to stop," Bang Nhi recounted.

Upon learning about the situation, Bang Nhi suggested to her mother that she ask for help from an adult for her best friend. After some thought, Nhi's mother, Le Thi Thanh Hien, told her daughter to write a letter to an acquaintance, Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy (residing in Thua Thien - Hue province), who works for a non-governmental organization and often helps poor students, to request a scholarship.

"In the letter, I tried to explain Hoai's family situation and hoped that Ms. Thuy would find a way to help her. After finishing the letter, I asked my mother to review it and correct any errors so that I could rewrite it more completely. My purpose in writing this letter was to ask Ms. Thuy and everyone else to help Hoai overcome her difficulties. I just hope that she will receive help so that she doesn't have to drop out of school," Bang Nhi confided.

Ms. Hien (Bang Nhi's mother) said that after the letter was finished, she took a picture of it and sent it to Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy. Upon seeing the handwritten letter from his 7th-grade student, Mr. Thuy posted it on his personal Facebook page. The handwritten letter, with its beautiful, neat handwriting and touching content about friendship, attracted widespread sharing and comments from the online community.

"When I heard my daughter express her desire to help her best friend who is in difficult circumstances, I was very moved. Even though she's young, I'm very pleased that she cares so much about her friends. I also didn't expect that the handwritten letter my daughter wrote and sent to Ms. Thuy would be shared so widely on social media," Ms. Hien said.

Someone has contacted us to offer support.

Speaking with a reporter from Thanh Nien newspaper, Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy said that he is a native of Central Vietnam, born into a disadvantaged family, and that a scholarship helped him overcome adversity to pursue his education. Currently, Mr. Thuy is the director of a charitable foundation for children and the chief representative of a non-governmental organization that provides healthcare and education support projects for disadvantaged children in many countries, including Vietnam.

"I met Nhi's mother through social media. Knowing Nhi's passion for reading, I once gifted her some books. Ms. Hien, knowing that I often help underprivileged students, asked for my help for her daughter's friend. I told Ms. Hien to have her daughter write a letter, firstly to instill compassion in her, and secondly so that I could understand the situation better and find ways to support her. I was deeply moved when I received the handwritten letter from the 7th-grade student," Mr. Thuy confided.

According to Mr. Thuy, after posting Nhi's handwritten letter on social media, his friends contacted the homeroom teacher of the 7th-grade student to offer support to her best friend. "I will continue to monitor and support Nhi's friend when needed," Mr. Thuy shared.

As Thanh Nien newspaper reported, over the past two days, images of a handwritten letter from Bang Nhi, filled with touching content about the unfortunate circumstances of her classmate Pham Quang Hoai, have been circulating on social media. The letter was sent by the 7th-grade student to an acquaintance, asking for their help in securing a scholarship for her close friend.
