Accordingly, recently released data from the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office's industrial design registration records suggests that VinFast is likely preparing to launch at least two new large SUV models. One of these models is particularly noteworthy for its size, body proportions, and design style being quite similar to the current VF 9.
Although there has been no official confirmation from the Vietnamese car manufacturer, looking at the sketch details, it can be seen that the new model could be a mid-cycle facelift or an improved version of the VF 9.
Compared to existing versions on the market, the new model's design features many changes towards a more modern and softer look. The front of the car has slimmer headlights, a more rounded body, while the rear has also been refined with a more seamless and minimalist style than before. This design language shares many similarities with the recently launched new generation VF 8.

This is also noteworthy because for many years, VinFast has typically focused on expanding its product range with completely new models; or changing battery configurations and equipment. The fact that a flagship model has been significantly upgraded in terms of appearance, technology, and driving experience shows that the Vietnamese automaker is beginning a "product refresh" cycle similar to many global car manufacturers.
The new generation VF 8 is the clearest example of this direction. VinFast has significantly refined this D-segment electric SUV in both interior and performance, rather than just making minor equipment changes as before. In addition, the vehicle has been upgraded with a chassis, the addition of FSD adaptive damping suspension, an improved cabin interface, and the return of the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. These are all details that have received feedback from many users during real-world use.
If the VF 9 follows a similar direction, this could become the most significant upgrade for this flagship electric SUV since its launch.

The Vietnamese automaker has also just launched a new generation of its "younger sibling" model, the VF 8.

In fact, the current time is also considered suitable for VinFast to refresh the VF 9. This large electric SUV first appeared in late 2022 and has now entered the mid-life stage. For many international car manufacturers, this is often the time when flagship models are refreshed to maintain appeal and increase competitiveness.
Market pressure is also a noteworthy factor. After a period of growth, the Vietnamese electric vehicle market is beginning to enter a more diverse competitive landscape as more and more brands enter the market. In the large SUV segment, consumers are no longer solely concerned with range or acceleration, but are paying more attention to driving experience, interior finish, and driver assistance technology.
This partly explains why the new generation VF 8 received a significant upgrade from VinFast, rather than just a cosmetic change. And if the VF 9 is indeed preparing for a new version, it's highly likely that this model will also receive a similar series of improvements to synchronize the experience with the company's new product range.

Another detail that has caught the attention of observers is how VinFast is gradually unifying the design language across its electric SUV models. While the previous VF 9 had a boxy and bulky design, the new renderings show the company is moving towards a softer and more aerodynamic design. This trend not only makes the car more aesthetically modern but also optimizes performance and energy efficiency, factors that are increasingly emphasized in new-generation electric vehicles.
However, to date, all information related to the new VF 9 remains speculative, based on design profiles and recent changes by VinFast. The Vietnamese automaker has not yet confirmed the launch date or specific specifications of this large SUV.
