According to the approved plan, the Phan Thiet airport project in Thien Nghiep commune (Phan Thiet city) is a dual-use airport including a military airport and a civil airport. Phan Thiet airport started construction in January 2015. To date, the military items have been exploited by the Air Defense - Air Force for military flights in early August 2024. The route connecting Vo Nguyen Giap street to Phan Thiet airport has been opened to traffic since early 2025. The civil aviation item in the form of a BOT contract is currently undergoing procedures to adjust the investment policy (upgrading the scale from level 4C to 4E) with a runway length of 3,050m, a passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers/year.
Currently, the Department of Construction is coordinating with the consulting unit to complete and prepare the Feasibility Study Report for the Phan Thiet Airport project (Phan Thiet airport), preparing the final steps to restart the civil airport project. The adjusted Pre-Feasibility Study Report has been evaluated by the Interdisciplinary Appraisal Council. The province is coordinating with the Ministry of National Defense to clearly define the items used for defense, dual-use and civil purposes to speed up the selection of investors.
Recently, the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province has submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of the adjustment of the investment policy of the Phan Thiet airport project, the civil aviation category under the form of a BOT contract to implement the next steps, put into use soon to avoid waste. Promote the effectiveness of investment in shared works designed for dual use, meeting the load and safety requirements for both civil and military aviation that the Ministry of National Defense has invested in. The Phan Thiet airport project is very important, the people are looking forward to the early implementation and synchronous operation between the military and the civilian, contributing to attracting investment, promoting the socio-economic development of the province...
