Quantitative progress, qualitative change
The year 2025 marks a remarkable development of the OCOP Program in Binh Thuan , with 21 products recognized as meeting 4-star OCOP standards, the highest number ever. Of these, 11 products were newly recognized and 10 products were re-evaluated. Notably, most of them are local specialties such as fish sauce (14 products), dried squid (2 products), fresh dragon fruit, seaweed and chicken eggs. This result not only reflects the professionalism of the evaluation agencies but also demonstrates the continuous efforts of OCOP entities in the province. This is not only a step forward in quantity but also shows a clear professionalization in the production, processing, branding and market access stages of OCOP entities. A notable new point in this period is that the scoring is carried out publicly and transparently through electronic evaluation software. Applying technology not only helps the scoring process to be synchronous and objective, but also supports the storage and retrieval of product information in a transparent manner.
Awarding 4-star OCOP certification to products.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, Vice Chairman of the Provincial OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council said: "All products participating in this evaluation round meet the 4-star OCOP standard, showing the serious and methodical investment from the producers. The products meet the requirements on quality, food safety, origin of raw materials, packaging design, trade promotion activities and commitment to environmental protection". In particular, 2 products, seaweed of Hai Nam Okinawa Co., Ltd. (Phan Thiet City) and TAFA fresh chicken eggs of TAFA Viet Livestock Co., Ltd. (Tra Tan Commune, Duc Linh District) are assessed to have the potential to achieve 5-star OCOP. After being recognized as achieving 4 stars, the dossiers and product samples of these 2 potential products will be sent by the Department of Agriculture and Environment to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration, evaluation and recognition of national OCOP".
The highlight is that many establishments have proactively improved packaging, registered intellectual property, geographical indications, and applied digital technology to production processes and traceability. The use of QR codes to record detailed information about shipments and production dates has helped improve transparency, control quality, create trust for consumers, and open up opportunities for distribution systems.
Binh Thuan's typical OCOP products
Spreading the power of OCOP
To date, the province has a total of 210 valid OCOP products, including 28 4-star products and 182 3-star products. The OCOP program in Binh Thuan has recently achieved many important results in promoting rural economic development and improving people's lives.
Promote product consumption
According to the assessment of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the OCOP Program is increasingly affirming its role as an important driving force to promote the development of the rural economy in a self-reliant and sustainable direction. This is also an effective solution contributing to the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development for the period 2021-2025. In Binh Thuan, OCOP has contributed to enhancing many local specialties with strengths such as dragon fruit, fish sauce, dried squid, seaweed, chicken eggs, etc. These products have not only improved in design and quality but also built brands, gradually expanding distribution markets inside and outside the province. Many products have approached export standards, opening up a new direction for rural goods. The program also helps reorient production according to the value chain, forming new-style cooperatives, connecting farmers with businesses and consumer markets. At the same time, producers are increasingly paying attention to environmental factors such as reducing emissions, reusing agricultural by-products and protecting rural landscapes. Not only stopping at creating products, OCOP is contributing to the formation of a rural economic ecosystem based on the principles of circulation, sustainable development and preserving local cultural identity, in which typical products play a key role.
According to the orientation of the provincial agricultural sector, in the coming time, the province will continue to support OCOP entities through training, trade promotion, brand building and participation in fairs and events connecting domestic and foreign supply and demand. The agricultural sector encourages entities to continuously improve designs, enhance product quality, and expand the market, aiming to upgrade the star rating to reach the national 5-star OCOP standard. This is a practical goal to bring Binh Thuan's typical products to a larger market. The OCOP program will continue to be closely integrated with the process of building new rural areas, developing agricultural tourism, and exploiting traditional cultural values associated with local products. Thereby, gradually forming a rural economic ecosystem in the direction of green - modern - sustainable.
