- Every rainy season, the people of Dong Van and Na Rieng villages in Khanh Khe commune live in constant anxiety as they have to use rafts to cross the Ky Cung River. The longing for a sturdy, safe bridge to facilitate travel and trade has been a wish of the local people for many years.
In the early days of the rainy season, the people of the two villages are always anxious whenever the Ky Cung River rises. Previously, before the Khanh Khe hydroelectric project, people on both sides of the river had contributed their labor to build two temporary wooden bridges to facilitate transportation.
However, since around 2020, when the Khanh Khe hydroelectric plant came into operation, the water level on the river has risen, coupled with unpredictable rainfall and flooding, rendering the temporary bridges unusable. Since then, people have mainly had to choose between crossing the river by raft or taking a longer detour of 5 to 6 km.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Party Secretary and Head of Dong Van village, said: The village currently has 155 households with nearly 700 inhabitants. People who want to cross the river have to use rafts, but it is very dangerous when the water level rises during the rainy season. If they go by road, they have to take a very long detour.
Not only Dong Van village, but also the people of Na Rieng village are heavily affected. Mr. Ha Van Tuan, Party Secretary and Head of Na Rieng village, shared: The village currently has 96 households with over 400 inhabitants. For a long time, the villagers mainly crossed the river by raft. Whenever there was heavy rain or the hydroelectric dam released water, transportation was almost completely disrupted. Previously, the villagers built a wooden bridge, but it was always swept away by floods. The greatest wish of the villagers is for the government to invest in a sturdy bridge to ensure safety and create conditions for economic development.
Poor transportation infrastructure not only affects travel needs but also directly impacts people's lives and production.
Although currently residing in Na Rieng village, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu's family owns a large area of rice fields in Dong Van village. Due to being separated by the Ky Cung River, transporting agricultural products during each harvest season is quite difficult for the family.
Mr. Hieu said: "My family owns rice paddies in Dong Van village, so we have to cross the river every day to get to work. When the river water rises, traveling by raft is very dangerous, and taking a detour takes a lot of time and money. Everyone here hopes for a sturdy bridge to make travel and transporting agricultural products easier."
Besides affecting production, difficult travel also poses many safety risks for residents and students, especially during the rainy season. The detour route through neighboring villages is also in disrepair, with many potholes and landslides, making traffic difficult.
According to our investigation, the biggest difficulty currently facing the bridge construction is the lack of investment capital. Mr. Vi Van Duc , Head of the Economic Department of Khanh Khe commune, said: "The construction of a bridge across the Ky Cung River is an urgent need and a legitimate aspiration of the people. However, this is a large-scale project requiring a very high investment. After implementing the two-tiered local government model, the commune has compiled the voters' recommendations, reported to the competent authorities, and proposed that they consider allocating funds to implement the project as soon as possible."
The desire for a sturdy bridge is a practical need of the people in the two villages of Dong Van and Na Rieng, and also a long-term solution to ensure safety and promote socio-economic development of the locality. With recommendations from the grassroots and the attention of all levels and sectors, the people here hope that a bridge across the Ky Cung River will soon be invested in and built, contributing to opening up opportunities for production development, increasing income and improving the lives of the people.
