Joey Canavati, owner of the Alexander Hotel, said they had no visitors. "This is the worst Christmas ever. Bethlehem is closed for Christmas. There are no Christmas trees, no joy, no Christmas spirit," he said. Meanwhile, Bethlehem relies heavily on tourism for income and jobs.
Canavati said his hotel was booked solid for Christmas. Bookings continued to be so strong that he had to find rooms elsewhere in town to accommodate those who couldn't get a room at his hotel.
When the war started all he got in his email was a cancellation notice.
