Joey Canavati, owner of the Alexander Hotel, said they had no guests. "This is the worst Christmas ever. Bethlehem is closed for Christmas. No Christmas tree, no joy, no Christmas spirit," he said. Meanwhile, Bethlehem relies heavily on tourism for income and jobs.
Canavati said his hotel was already fully booked for Christmas. Bookings continued to pour in, to the point where he had to find rooms elsewhere in town to help those who couldn't get a reservation at his hotel.
When the war started, all he received in emails was a cancellation notice.
