Vangelis Pavlidis' hat-trick secured a crucial home victory for Benfica, extending their unbeaten run under manager Mourinho to 11 matches. During this streak, Benfica only drew three times, against Casa Pia, Sporting, and Braga.
Notably, in those 11 unbeaten matches, Benfica scored 23 goals and conceded only 7, demonstrating a clear balance between a sharp attack and a solid defense, a hallmark of Mourinho's coaching philosophy.
This is clear evidence of the Portuguese coach's strong comeback in his homeland, after he officially took charge in September. This impressive run of matches also includes notable results in the Champions League, where Benfica successively defeated Ajax and Napoli.
In the domestic league standings, Benfica currently has 39 points, 7 points behind league leaders Porto but having played one more game. Porto is also the only team to remain undefeated in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season, with 15 wins in 16 matches played.
According to A Bola , Mourinho's contract with Benfica runs until the summer of 2027. The contract includes a clause allowing both parties to terminate the agreement early, during the 2025/26 season. In that case, Benfica would only need to pay half of the Portuguese coach's salary if they activate this clause.
