The 7-seater SUV is sold in two versions, with a 1.5 engine similar to the City, the Honda Sensing safety package, and a top price of 705 million VND.
On July 4th in Hanoi , Honda launched the BR-V – an officially imported MPV from Indonesia. The car is available in two versions: G and L. In the mainstream MPV segment of the Vietnamese market, the BR-V competes with formidable rivals such as the Mitsubishi Xpander , Toyota Veloz , and Hyundai Stargazer .
The specific selling prices for the Honda BR-V versions are as follows: the G version is priced at 661 million VND and the L version at 705 million VND. The pearl white color option adds 5 million VND to the price for both versions.
Competitors in this segment (automatic versions only) include the Mitsubishi Xpander (priced at 598-698 million VND), the Hyundai Stargazer (575-685 million VND), and the Toyota Veloz (658-698 million VND).
Exterior
The BR-V is 4,490 mm long, 1,780 mm wide, 1,685 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Meanwhile, the segment leader, the Xpander, is 4,475 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, 1,730 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,775 mm. This means the Xpander has an advantage in legroom between the rows of seats, while the BR-V has the advantage in width.
The G and L trims differ in equipment. The L trim has LED headlights and LED fog lights, while the G trim uses halogen headlights and lacks fog lights. Both feature LED taillights and brake lights, a shark fin antenna, power-adjustable and power-folding exterior mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, a single exhaust pipe, and 215/55R17 tires.
Interior
The cockpit features a sporty design and a 7-seat configuration. The steering wheel integrates numerous function control buttons, with the L version adding paddle shifters. Both models are equipped with an analog speedometer, integrated with a 4.2-inch color screen, and a 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, supporting Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. A 6-speaker sound system is included. 12V power outlets are located in all three rows of seats.
The L trim has a single-zone automatic climate control system, while the G trim uses manual air conditioning, and both have rear seat air vents in the ceiling. The G trim has a beige headliner and black cloth seats. The L trim has leather seats and a black headliner.
Engine and safety features
The BR-V uses a 1.5 i-VTEC gasoline engine similar to the Honda City . It produces 119 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 145 Nm at 4,300 rpm. It has a CVT transmission. The car has three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport. Combined fuel consumption is 6.4 liters/100 km.
The Honda Sensing safety technology package is standard equipment and includes features such as automatic collision mitigation braking, adaptive high beams, adaptive cruise control including low-speed range, forward vehicle departure warning, and lane keeping assist. The L trim adds a lane-view camera.
The BR-V also features remote vehicle start (depending on the version) and an automatic door locking system. The L version is equipped with 6 airbags, while the G version only has 4 airbags. Other safety features include ABS/EBD/BA brakes, hill start assist, electronic stability control, traction control, and a rearview camera.
Small MPV market share
The MPV segment remains dominated by the Xpander. Mitsubishi's model consistently holds the top spot in monthly sales, followed by the Veloz and Stargazer. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 6,700 Xpander vehicles have been delivered to Vietnamese customers, 3,640 Veloz vehicles, and nearly 1,730 Stargazer vehicles.
Compared to its competitors, Honda's models prioritize driving feel and superior safety features. Honda also positions its products at a higher price point within the segment.
Like the Xpander, the BR-V is also developed in Indonesia, the largest MPV market in Southeast Asia. The arrival of the BR-V helps Honda diversify its product portfolio. The car has been on sale in Vietnam since July 12th.
