MU is said to want Donnarumma to solve the goalkeeper problem. |
On August 17, MU suffered a regrettable 0-1 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford. Despite having a bright game and creating more opportunities, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir's mistake left the "Red Devils" empty-handed in the opening match of the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Arsenal's David Raya played brilliantly and was voted best player of the match, showing the difference in the goalkeeper position. It is understandable that MU wants to add a quality goalkeeper. British media confirmed that Gianluigi Donnarumma is the ideal choice.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper was left out of PSG's plans by coach Luis Enrique. He is valued at around £40m and demands a salary of over £300,000 a week. United have denied interest, but with Andre Onana and Bayindir constantly making mistakes, this is an option that the United board is considering.
The biggest problem is the wage bill. To make way for Donnarumma, MU is forced to sell players. There are currently 6 names on the list of players to be sold, including Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Rasmus Hojlund and Onana. The total salary of this group is up to 685,000 pounds/week, double the amount Donnarumma wants.
There have been a number of potential deals. Inter Milan want to bring Onana back, Chelsea are interested in Garnacho. Sancho is waiting for a new offer after rejecting Roma, while Hojlund is on AC Milan and Newcastle's radar. Antony could return to Real Betis.
In addition to the goalkeeper position, MU also wants to strengthen the midfield after missing out on Brighton's Carlos Baleba. Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon is the top target.
