British media recently revealed surprising news that Cole Palmer has been linked with Manchester United. This information emerged amidst signs of a resurgence for MU under interim manager Michael Carrick. Two consecutive victories against Manchester City and Arsenal have propelled the "Red Devils" to fourth place in the Premier League.
According to The Guardian , Palmer is homesick and considering a return to Manchester in the summer of 2026, with Manchester United seen as a potential destination. The 23-year-old is reportedly not really enjoying life in London and misses his friends back home.
But if they pursue Palmer, MU might have to go against one of the "unwritten rules" that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has applied since INEOS took over football at Old Trafford.
Accordingly, the club limits signings of "Galacticos," prioritizing squad structure over expensive stars. Technical director Jason Wilcox defines the playing style, while the coach only identifies positions needing reinforcement and selects from a list of available options.
Palmer is currently one of the most outstanding attacking players in the Premier League. According to Transfermarkt , his transfer value is around €120 million. His high fee and salary have led to him being categorized as a "Galactico," something Ratcliffe wants to avoid.
Therefore, the Cole Palmer story clearly reflects the strategic choice that MU is about to face. Will they remain steadfast in their long-term development philosophy, or will they break the rules to bring in a game-changing star?
