MU is truly back!

Consistency, not a single explosive moment, is the clearest measure of Manchester United's resurgence in the 2025/26 season.

Manchester United not only improved their position in the league table but also transformed their playing style. And if a number is needed to measure this, it's goal difference (GD).

Let's start from the 2024/25 season with the lowest point when the "Red Devils" finished the Premier League with a goal difference of -10, with only 13% of the season having a positive goal difference. They scored a total of 44 goals, a number far too low for a team that once aimed to compete for the title.

Previously, the 2023/24 season also ended with a goal difference of -1, marking the first time in the Premier League era that they did not finish the season with a positive goal difference.

The investment in the attacking line in the summer of 2025 changed the trajectory. Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko added new energy. Bruno Fernandes continued to be the creative centerpiece. After 26 rounds this season, Manchester United scored 47 goals and achieved a goal difference of +10.

The +10 figure is not simply a statistic. It ends a 986-day wait since the club's goal difference last reached positive double digits, when they finished the 2022/23 season with a +15 goal difference.

The new stability is what sets us apart.

Data shows that MU has gone through 24 out of 26 rounds this season with a positive goal difference, equivalent to 92%. Last season, they only achieved 13%. In the 2023/24 season, it was 26%. This difference speaks volumes.

The 2-0 victory against Tottenham brought the team's goal difference to +10. The draw against West Ham helped maintain that record. Under Michael Carrick, the club increased its goal difference by +5 in just his first five games in charge.

It's worth noting that the improvement didn't come from a short-term burst of form. The peak and trough of the 2025/26 season weren't that far apart. The worst goal difference was only -2 in October 2025. Compared to -14 in the previous season, that's a structural difference.

From crisis to a solid foundation

The final stages under Erik ten Hag and the season under Ruben Amorim revealed an unbalanced team. The attack lacked sharpness, and the defense was vulnerable. A negative goal difference was the inevitable consequence.

This season, the team's structure has been adjusted. The additions to the attacking line help distribute the goal-scoring burden. Fernandes no longer has to play so deep. The system operates more smoothly.

A goal difference of +10 isn't the pinnacle, but it's a sign of a team that knows how to control the game better. In the demanding Premier League, maintaining a positive goal difference for 92% of the season reflects a rare level of consistency at MU in recent years.

Manchester United are not perfect. But for the first time in many seasons, they are no longer relying on moments of brilliance. They have a solid foundation.

Goal difference doesn't win titles. But it builds confidence. And with the "Red Devils," that confidence is returning in the most convincing way.
