Manchester United are reportedly considering the possibility of bringing James Garner back to Old Trafford, three years after selling the midfielder to Everton for around £9 million. |
Since moving to Everton from Manchester United in 2022, Garner has become a key player for the Merseyside club, making over 100 appearances. Everton are working to negotiate a contract extension with him, and the club are not keen to lose him easily.
However, interest from Manchester United could make Garner reconsider his future. The 24-year-old midfielder is seen as a suitable option as his contract with Everton expires next summer, giving MU the opportunity to negotiate a deal at a reasonable price.
Garner came through Manchester United's youth academy, joining the club in 2009 at the age of 8 and making his first-team debut in 2018. However, he only made 7 appearances for the "Red Devils" before being loaned out to Watford and Nottingham Forest, and then moving permanently to Everton in 2022.
Besides Garner, Manu Koné (AS Roma) and Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich) are also among the names being considered. Koné is considered a good fit for coach Ruben Amorim's three-centre-back system.
The Times reports that the French player is very interested in moving to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Goretzka is losing his place at Bayern Munich and his contract expires in summer 2026. Under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United are facing instability in midfield, with the futures of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes all in doubt. Adding a new midfielder is seen as a priority.
