MU is determined to overhaul its midfield. |
Under manager Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's midfield continues to lack stability. Casemiro is entering the final year of his contract, while Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo have failed to make a breakthrough. Mainoo is even rumored to be considering a move to Napoli. In this context, MU must act.
According to ESPN , Manchester United's number one target is Carlos Baleba – a midfielder valued at £115 million. The Cameroonian star is considered the most complete midfielder in the Premier League and he is seen as filling the void left by Moises Caicedo after his £115 million move to Chelsea. If they sign Baleba, MU will break the £89 million transfer record set by Paul Pogba in 2016.
Manchester United are also monitoring a trio of England internationals: Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Conor Gallagher. Anderson is a key player at Nottingham Forest, while Wharton has impressed with his ability to control the tempo. Gallagher, after an impressive start at Atletico Madrid, has gradually lost his starting place under Diego Simeone, and a £30 million price tag in January is considered entirely feasible.
Midfielders Andre Gomes and Joao Gomes also made the list despite Wolves being bottom of the table, showing that MU highly values the potential of the pair. The final name is Angelo Stiller of Stuttgart, valued at £44 million. However, Stuttgart's sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth insisted it was too early to discuss his future.
With a long list of potential candidates spread across Europe, MU has shown they are ready to enter the winter transfer window with the determination to completely rebuild their midfield.
