A warm back-to-school season

Along with the support from the education and training sector and the Dong Nai Provincial Association for the Promotion of Learning, in recent days, the Youth Union and the Women's Union at all levels in the province have actively mobilized resources and organized activities to support disadvantaged students and university students to return to school with peace of mind.

Not only did she receive a scholarship, but on the eve of the new school year, Bui Hoang Gia Linh, a student in class 11B10 at Le Hong Phong High School (Long Binh ward), was also delighted to receive a new ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) from the "Ao Dai for Children to School" program of the Provincial Women's Union.

Sharing difficulties, providing motivation.

Gia Linh said: "I am the eldest of three sisters. My father works as a motorbike taxi driver, with an irregular income, while my mother is a factory worker with a stable but not high income. The three of us sisters are of school age, so our parents' income is only enough to cover our daily living expenses at a frugal level. To prepare for the new school year, my father has to work hard driving his motorbike, and my mother has to save up and prepare for it months in advance."

Gia Linh was planning to wear her old ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) from her 10th grade year to ease the burden on her parents when she learned that the Provincial Women's Union was launching the "Ao Dai for Children to Wear to School" program. Knowing her family's circumstances, Gia Linh not only received an ao dai but was also offered a Nguyen Thi Dinh scholarship (worth 1 million VND).

"The money is enough for me to buy books, notebooks, and personal school supplies, helping to ease my parents' worries at the beginning of the new school year," Gia Linh confided.

In addition to a 50% tuition fee reduction scholarship, Tran Thi Anh Thu, a third-year student in the Faculty of Oriental Studies (Lac Hong University), recently received a "Strong Future" scholarship (worth 5 million VND) awarded by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association.

According to Anh Thu, her parents are factory workers with limited income, so from the moment she entered university, she set a goal to "hunt" for a scholarship to ease the financial burden on her parents. Therefore, she always strived to achieve good academic results and participated in competitions and activities organized by the university's Youth Union and Student Association. In particular, in addition to the scholarship programs offered by the university and the Youth Union/Student Association, she also proactively sought information about other scholarship programs to apply for.

For orphaned students, scholarships at the beginning of the school year are a great source of encouragement, helping them confidently enter the new school year.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuan (grandmother of Nguyen Ngoc Minh An, a student in class 1/1 at Nguyen An Ninh Primary School, Tam Hiep Ward) said: When Minh An was just over 2 years old, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out strongly. Minh An's father was working in the "three-in-one" program and contracted the disease, then passed away. Without a father, Minh An grew up surrounded by the love of her mother, maternal grandparents, and the care of society. Recently, Minh An was one of 209 orphaned students due to Covid-19 who received financial support from Long Thanh Golf Investment and Business Joint Stock Company.

Creating opportunities for students to adapt to a new learning environment.

Besides gifts such as books, school bags, school supplies, and bicycles, and scholarships, the Youth Union at all levels also organizes many activities to create opportunities for students to familiarize themselves with the new learning environment.

Ms. Truong Le Bao Trinh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Lac Hong University, said: "To kick off the new academic year's activities for freshmen, the Youth Union and the Student Association of Lac Hong University have coordinated several field trips for freshmen to the Tran Bien Temple of Literature (Tran Bien Ward), a national historical site. Participating in this program, freshmen visited and learned about the site; offered incense to commemorate the contributions of President Ho Chi Minh and other ancestors worshipped in the main hall of the Tran Bien Temple of Literature. They also participated in lively team-building games."

For new students from other provinces and cities, this activity is an opportunity to learn more about Dong Nai province; to interact, connect, and quickly adapt to the living and learning environment at the university level.

Pham Minh Nhut, a freshman in the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Lac Hong University), shared: "Coming from Ca Mau province to Dong Nai to enroll in university, I was quite disoriented at first. However, thanks to the care and guidance of the teachers, and especially participating in activities organized by the school's Youth Union and Student Association, I had many opportunities to interact and make new friends, helping me gradually get used to student life away from home."

In addition to activities organized by the Youth Union and student associations of various schools, the Dong Nai Provincial Youth Union and Student Association have also planned to organize "Welcome to the New School Year - Welcome to New Students" activities for high school students, vocational education and continuing education centers, and university and college students in the province.

Specifically, the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Student Association will organize a talk show on "Job Trends in the Digital Age, Essential Digital and Soft Skills for Students"; a "Green Connection Journey" with collective activities; and a "Dorm - Music Tour" around the dormitories. The highlight will be the "Welcome to the New School Year - Welcome to New Students" event held in three locations with activities such as: awarding the titles of "3 Good Students," "3 Well-Rounded Students," and "Outstanding Young Teachers," awarding scholarships to support students in their studies, a career orientation forum, and various experiential game booths… Through these activities, a healthy and beneficial playground will be created, providing opportunities for interaction, learning, exchanging study experiences, and participating in student movements.
