Outstanding productivity
For the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop season, the entire city will plant approximately 28,000 hectares of rice. Localities will use certified rice varieties covering about 95% of the planted area; of which, short-day varieties account for over 95% of the total planted area, specifically including DT100 (KH1), HG12, J02, TBR97, Khang Dan, DT39, HN6, HG244, TH5…
According to assessments by the agricultural sector, this year's winter-spring rice crop in localities such as Quang Dien and Dan Dien... has mostly shown stable growth, adapting well to cold and hot weather conditions, and showing little lodging. In particular, new rice varieties have yielded outstanding results, reaching 70-76 quintals/hectare, with economic efficiency of approximately 45-50 million VND/hectare. Currently, cooperatives are harvesting according to the principle of "harvesting as soon as the rice ripens," while mobilizing machinery and manpower to ensure the harvesting schedule is met.
Mr. Tran Quang Hung, Director of An Xuan Agricultural Cooperative in Quang Dien commune, said: This winter-spring crop season, the cooperative has a total sown area of 247 hectares, with rice varieties including TH5, HG244, and HG470. The locality is currently in the harvest season, with an estimated yield of 76 quintals/hectare, helping farmers earn an estimated income of about 50 million VND/hectare.
Mr. Tran Dinh Tuan, a farmer belonging to An Xuan Agricultural Cooperative, shared: "To ensure rice yield, from the beginning of the season until now, I have strictly followed the technical procedures as guided by agricultural extension officers and the cooperative. We chose rice varieties TH5, HG244, and HG470 to suit our specific fields, and we followed the technical staff's instructions to ensure good germination and growth of the rice plants right from the start of the season."
Also achieving outstanding productivity, Quang Tho 2 Agricultural Cooperative has a winter-spring crop area of 114 hectares. The cooperative's rice varieties this season include TH5 (79%) and J01 and J02 (30%), with an estimated yield of 70 quintals/hectare, significantly higher than the previous season. According to Mr. Nguyen Luong Tri, Director of Quang Tho 2 Agricultural Cooperative, the high rice yield this season is due to local farmers strictly adhering to technical procedures. Farmers are expected to earn approximately 45 million VND/hectare this season. However, the current rice purchase price is still lower than the previous season. Therefore, the cooperative is making efforts to connect with and find markets to increase profits for farmers.
Product consumption linkage
To increase rice productivity and yield, localities have rationally allocated long, medium, and short-day rice varieties based on specific considerations of production conditions in each region. Priority is given to using high-yielding, high-quality rice varieties; at the same time, rice varieties that have been cultivated for many years and are frequently infected with pests and diseases are limited. Many localities have boldly introduced some officially recognized rice varieties, participating in product consumption linkages such as Ha Phat 3, TBR225, VNR20, DB6… into cultivation to gradually diversify the city's rice variety range.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Head of the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the high yield of rice in this winter-spring crop in many localities is due to the combination of advanced farming techniques, the use of high-quality seeds, and proactive weather response by farmers, localities, and relevant agencies. In addition, farmers have sown sparsely and rationally, using row sowing and sparse sowing instead of dense sowing, which helps reduce costs, pests, and diseases, and increases the number of effective tillers. Furthermore, farmers have applied balanced fertilizers, increased the use of organic and microbial fertilizers to strengthen plants and reduce lodging; and used biological pesticides and integrated pest management. Simultaneously, the use of transplanters, sprayers, and combine harvesters has accelerated production, reduced post-harvest losses, and thus increased yield and output.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Le Van Anh, building on the achievements of the winter-spring crop, in the upcoming summer-autumn crop of 2026, the city's agricultural sector will continue to closely monitor and evaluate the adaptability of new rice varieties to different cultivation conditions, and develop a plan to replicate the model in localities with similar conditions. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on introducing some officially recognized rice varieties, which are involved in product consumption linkages, into production to aim for sustainable agricultural development and increase income for farmers.
