Nose deformed after 10 cosmetic surgeries.

Hanoi – After undergoing a nose job, a 35-year-old woman was dissatisfied and had nine corrective surgeries, resulting in an uneven, deformed, and infected nose.

On June 23, Dr. Tong Thanh Hai, Head of the Department of Microsurgery and Reconstruction, Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, National Burn Hospital, stated that the patient's nasal skin was contracted, the main septum was perforated, and the mucous membrane was thin, causing narrowing and difficulty breathing. Inside, there was a lot of fibrous tissue due to multiple surgical dissections.

Ten years ago, she felt her nose was flat, so she had her first rhinoplasty. Since then, she has been dissatisfied and wanted to change it to a higher shape, undergoing nine revision surgeries, five of which were done at spas without medical expertise. After the surgeries, her nose didn't look better; instead, it became infected, developed complications, caused pain, and lost its aesthetic appeal, making it impossible to return to its original shape.

Dr. Hai diagnosed the patient with nasal deformity due to improper tissue dissection in the nasal cavity, using unsuitable implant materials leading to the loss of the main septal cartilage. The surgeon at the spa lacked expertise in treating the patient, causing damage to the alar cartilage, resulting in a collapsed nasal wing, and then inserting silicone despite this procedure being generally contraindicated.

The patient requested that the doctor perform another rhinoplasty, but had to wait 9 months before the surgery could be performed to avoid a recurrence of inflammation like in previous cases.

Doctors advise those considering rhinoplasty to thoroughly research the procedure and have it performed at reputable medical facilities. If inflammation occurs after rhinoplasty or if multiple revisions are needed, it can lead to complications and hinder recovery; therefore, treatment should be sought at a specialized hospital.
