This year's Linh Son Holy Mother Festival took place from June 18-20 (corresponding to the 4th to 6th day of the 5th lunar month). On June 18 alone, the festival attracted a large number of local people and visitors from all over to come and pay their respects.
Venerable Thich Trung Tan, a monk at Linh Son Phuoc Trung Pagoda in the Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area, said, "The festival honoring the Mother Goddess is not only an occasion for Buddhists, the people, and tourists from near and far to gather to pray for peace, health, and family prosperity, but it also carries spiritual value, representing the culture and beautiful religious beliefs of the Southern Vietnamese people in worshipping the Mother Goddess."

The festival honoring the Goddess originates from a combination of the legend of Linh Son Thanh Mau and the Dragon Boat Festival in Vietnamese culture. According to legend, there was once a virtuous and chaste woman named Ly Thi Thien Huong. To maintain her loyalty and protect her chastity from evil, she threw herself down the mountain to commit suicide. The day of her death is the 5th day of the 5th lunar month.

When Lord Nguyễn Ánh (later King Gia Long) was pursued by the Tây Sơn army and got lost on Bà Đen Mountain, he prayed and received a dream from the Goddess, who showed him the way to escape and flee to Siam. After ascending the throne, the king had a bronze statue cast and bestowed upon her the title of Linh Sơn Thánh Mẫu (Holy Mother of Linh Sơn). Since then, the people have chosen the 5th day of the 5th lunar month as the official day to commemorate and pay tribute to her.

Venerable Thich Trung Tan, a monk at Linh Son Phuoc Trung Pagoda in the Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area, added that the Management Board of the Ba Den Mountain Pagoda System focuses on organizing the Ba Den Festival in a solemn, safe, and civilized manner. In addition, there are folk religious activities such as shadow puppetry, golden tray dance, lion dance, and bathing the Goddess, contributing to spreading the culture and spiritual tourism of Tay Ninh to domestic and international tourists.

During these days, many activities take place at the Lady Temple: On June 18th, there are ceremonies to welcome the main deity, purification rituals, hair-shaving rituals, bathing the Lady, chanting scriptures around the altar, and singing and dancing in worship of the Lady; on June 19th, there are ceremonies of repentance, midday offerings, presenting ten offerings, ascending the altar for the ritual, and performing cải lương (traditional Vietnamese opera) in worship of the Lady; on June 20th, there are ceremonies of repentance, midday offerings, and bidding farewell to the venerable monks and scripture masters...

Many visitors respectfully bring fruits and other offerings to worship the Goddess, praying for favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and peace in their families.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bao (residing in Thanh Hoa commune, Tay Ninh province) shared: “My family comes here very often, especially during the festival of Linh Son Thanh Mau. The atmosphere during the holidays is very joyful. Every year, Tay Ninh's Ba Mountain continues to develop, attracting a large number of visitors from all over.”

At this year's Linh Son Thanh Mau festival, visitors can also immerse themselves in events being held for the first time at Ba Den Mountain, such as the fruit carving festival, experiencing the "Lacquer Painting Path Telling the Legend of Linh Son Thanh Mau", and the balloon release festival…

With its unique historical, religious, and cultural significance, in 2018, the "Ceremony of Worshipping Linh Son Thanh Mau - Ba Den Mountain" was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
