Pom Cham village has the largest rice-growing area in Muong Chanh commune, with over 34 hectares. From early morning, farmers are bustling about preparing the land and planting the spring rice crop; some are building embankments, others plowing, and still others transplanting seedlings; the sound of plows blends with laughter and chatter, echoing across the fields. Stopping by the rice field of Mr. Tong Van Duan's family, we learned that this spring, his family is planting 600 square meters of rice, mainly glutinous rice varieties 87 and 97. His family has already prepared the land, cleared the surrounding area, built embankments, and weeded. Mr. Duan said: "At this point, the family has basically finished plowing, and we will transplant the rice in about 2 or 3 days. The advantage is that the village's rice fields have a solid irrigation system and abundant water from the Nam Chanh stream, so there is always enough water for the rice. Every year, the family harvests over 1 ton of rice, ensuring food for 4 people and providing additional income from selling the rice."

Meanwhile, in the fields of Hom Loi village, the atmosphere is bustling with activity. Villagers are taking advantage of favorable weather conditions to help with rice planting, ensuring timely completion. Additionally, the main irrigation canal, over 800 meters long, connecting the Nam Chanh stream to the production area, has been reinforced; water resources are abundant, facilitating spring crop production. Mr. Luong Van Nguyen, Party Secretary and Village Head, said: "This spring, the village is planting 15 hectares of rice. The people are actively cleaning the fields, preparing the land, sowing seedlings, and transplanting the spring rice crop. The village is encouraging people to make the most of the water resources, preparing the land and planting rice wherever water is available; prioritizing the use of high-quality, short-day rice varieties. Currently, about 70% of the village's area has been planted."

Farmers in Pom Chằm village, Mường Chanh commune, are mechanizing their land preparation process.

In the spring of 2026, farmers in Muong Chanh commune planted 264.7 hectares of rice. Before Tet (Lunar New Year), the commune directed villages to prepare seeds and supplies; directed villages to mobilize efforts to dredge the irrigation canal system to ensure water supply for irrigation. It also directed the Commune's General Service Center to provide guidance on rice planting techniques using the improved SRI method, guidance on purchasing and using pesticides according to the "four correct principles"; guidance on composting organic fertilizer from readily available agricultural waste products in the locality...; and assigned officials to regularly inspect the fields, promptly detect and guide farmers in treating pests and diseases with biological pesticides. The people were advised to use new rice varieties with good pest and disease resistance, such as TR225, Du Huong 8, Thien Uu 838, Nep 87, 97...

Muong Chanh is blessed with abundant water resources from the Ban Bong stream, originating from Muoi Noi commune (formerly Ban Lam commune), and the Nam Chanh stream, originating from the high mountains in the south of the commune. Along with its flat terrain and large rice fields located in the center of the commune, the loose, fertile soil provides favorable conditions for rice cultivation. The entire commune currently has 31,658 meters of irrigation canals, of which nearly 23,000 meters are reinforced, and the rest are earthen canals, ensuring irrigation water for the spring rice crop. From the beginning of the season, the commune directed the people in the villages to excavate and clear the entire canal system, using over 8,000 cubic meters of earth and rocks, clearing over 22,000 meters of canals and headworks, and ensuring water flow to prevent water loss.

The people of Hom Loi village, Muong Chanh commune, are planting rice in the spring season.

To improve rice productivity and quality, the commune's specialized agencies have directed the people to effectively implement intensive farming techniques and enhance the application of science and technology in production, such as covering 100% of the rice seedling area with plastic sheeting to protect against cold weather, increasing the use of tray seedlings, transplanting machines, and applying mechanization to various stages of production... To date, 100% of the villages with spring rice planting areas in the commune have prepared the land to 95% of the plan and transplanted about 60% of the area; the villages further back, waiting for water to arrive, will simultaneously transplant, and are expected to complete the spring rice production plan before March 15th.

By ensuring favorable production conditions and the proactive efforts of specialized agencies and the people, Muong Chanh commune strives to achieve its spring crop production targets for 2026 in terms of planting schedule, area, and yield, bringing a bountiful harvest to farmers.
