Leaders of Muong La commune presented the OCOP product recognition certificate to the Mua Vang Ban It Agricultural Cooperative.
Sticky rice (Nếp tan) is a local specialty that the people of Bản Ít village have maintained for generations, cultivating it on 60 hectares. Its advantages include large, round, white, plump grains that are fragrant and sticky when cooked. Recognizing the popularity of this type of sticky rice, in November 2025, Mr. Lò Văn Oanh and four other households in the village established the Bản Ít Golden Harvest Agricultural Cooperative, cultivating 4 hectares of sticky rice. Currently, the cooperative has invested in a workshop, office, milling machine, vacuum packaging machine, fans, and product packaging. The cooperative's sticky rice sells on the market for 45,000 to 55,000 VND per kilogram.
Mr. Lo Van Oanh, Director of the Ban It Golden Rice Agricultural Cooperative, said: "Recently, the cooperative received support from the commune People's Committee to prepare the assessment documents and was certified as a 3-star OCOP product. This result opens up opportunities to enhance the value of local agricultural products, contributing to stable output and increased income for the people. In the future, we will promote and encourage people to continue cultivating, focusing on applying advanced techniques to production; linking and seeking product consumption units… gradually building the brand of Ban It sticky rice, promoting the value of this ethnic specialty."

In September 2021, the Mountain Medicinal Herbs Cooperative, located in sub-district 2, Muong La commune, was established with 9 members. It specializes in purchasing, producing, and processing medicinal herbs such as Polygonum multiflorum, ginseng, Ganoderma lucidum, hawthorn, bitter melon, soapberry, and honey. Among these, the cooperative's hawthorn tea product has been certified as a 3-star OCOP product.
Ms. Lo Thi Chuong, Director of the Mountain Medicinal Herbs Cooperative, shared: "Muong La has nearly 200 hectares of hawthorn trees (wild apples), but the market is unstable. Wanting to help people sell their agricultural products and earn income, I researched and developed hawthorn tea. Fresh, delicious hawthorn fruits are sliced, sun-dried to preserve their flavor, then dried, finely ground, and packaged. Hawthorn tea has a sweet, slightly sour taste and a natural aroma. In 2023, the cooperative received 200 million VND in support from the former Muong La District People's Committee for product packaging, brand logo, barcode, traceability, and guidance on developing a representative product. It was awarded OCOP 3-star certification in 2025. In addition to hawthorn tea, the cooperative is researching and producing herbal shampoo."

Sticky rice from Bản Ít village, Mường La commune, has been certified as a 3-star OCOP product.
Muong La commune currently has 4 products recognized as meeting the valid OCOP 3-star standard, including: Tan Ban It sticky rice, dried beef, dried bananas, and wild apple tea. Each product carries a story about its production process, utilizing readily available local ingredients, safe production procedures, and ensuring compliance with the criteria in the One Commune One Product program's evaluation and classification criteria.
Annually, the People's Committee of the commune directs the review of typical products, organizes training conferences to guide the development of OCOP products for businesses, cooperatives, and households; integrates capital from the new rural development program to support cooperatives in registering trademarks and packaging for products and issuing codes, barcodes, and traceability labels; and supports consulting costs for product owners in preparing evaluation, classification, and communication dossiers for products.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong La commune, said: In 2026, the commune will implement models for producing clean and safe vegetables with linked product consumption in Na Loc village; models for raising rock bees and native black chickens in Nong Bau village; and livestock farming models in Khau Ban village. Along with that, training and technology transfer will be organized in a hands-on manner for households, and efforts will be made to promote and encourage people to establish cooperatives. Support will be provided for the procedures and processes of recognizing distinctive OCOP products, linking them to product consumption, and helping people to develop their economy effectively.
Developing OCOP products is a crucial prerequisite for Muong La commune to leverage its internal resources and exploit its existing strengths in agricultural development. It helps local specialty agricultural products gradually build brands, enhance their value through production and consumption linkage models, and change people's mindset regarding agricultural economics, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction.
