A law enforcement official spoke with officers at a White House checkpoint who responded to gunfire on the evening of May 23, and said one suspected shooter was "taken down" and taken to the hospital.
According to the official, a person approached a checkpoint at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House and began firing at officers.
The official said the suspect was "subdued" and transported to George Washington Hospital. He did not specify the suspect's condition or how he was subdued.
The official said the suspect was identified as someone with mental instability, adding that a "no-access order" had been issued against the suspect beforehand.
Earlier, the U.S. Secret Service said it was investigating the incident, and FBI Director Kash Patel said his agency was assisting in the investigation.
