In the memories of many, My Khanh commune (Long Xuyen City) was once characterized by vast rice paddies, cool, green canals laden with silt, and simple houses nestled under the shade of lush trees. But today, a return to My Khanh commune will undoubtedly surprise one with its transformations, painting a bright picture of a rural area striving for progress.

Improving day by day

On the way to My Khanh commune, the tree-lined roads are still there, but they have now been paved with asphalt and concrete, making travel and trade easier for the people. The small bamboo bridges of the past have been replaced by sturdy, solid bridges connecting hamlets and villages, facilitating economic activity. Along both sides of the road, houses with tiled roofs have sprung up, becoming more spacious and modern. Small shops and stalls are also busier, selling a variety of goods, reflecting the prosperity and dynamism of the locality. Especially, the joy is doubled as My Khanh has proudly achieved the status of a model new rural area for tourism.

In the rice fields, modern plows and harvesters are bustling about, replacing the calloused hands and bent sickles of the past. The application of science and technology to agricultural production has resulted in higher yields and better quality. My deepest impression is the transformation in the lives of the people of My Khanh. Many effective economic models have been implemented, from cultivating specialty fruit trees to developing community-based ecotourism. The orchards laden with ripe mangoes, the mulberry gardens combined with ecotourism, and the farms integrated with tourism… provide stable income, helping people improve their quality of life.

My Khanh commune is developing day by day.

Particularly noteworthy is the change in the mindset and practices of the people. They no longer passively accept poverty and backwardness, but have boldly embraced innovation and learned new things to develop their economy. The spirit of solidarity and mutual support is increasingly strengthened, creating an internal strength that helps My Khanh overcome all difficulties. Mr. Nguyen Van Day (a farmer residing in Binh Hoa 2 hamlet) shared: “In the past, the whole family relied on just a few acres of rice fields, and we were always short of money. Since the commune restructured its crops and livestock, and developed tourism , the lives of the people have become more prosperous. Children have the opportunity to receive a proper education, and houses are built more spaciously.”

Today's foundation, a solid step towards the future.

Chairman of My Khanh Commune People's Committee, Ho Van Lanh, stated: “In recent years, My Khanh commune has achieved positive and remarkable results in the fields of socio-economic development, national defense and security, successfully fulfilling the set goals. In the first quarter of 2025, the average per capita income reached 81.68 million VND/person (achieving 97.82% of the plan). Poverty reduction efforts have yielded outstanding results, with the poverty rate decreasing by 0.28%, equivalent to 140% of the 2025 plan. The rate of people participating in health insurance reached 96.26%, exceeding the set target by 0.2%.”

“The Party Committee of My Khanh commune has done a good job in Party building in many aspects. In particular, it focuses on mobilizing the masses and strengthening the close relationship between the Party and the people. Through this, it has unleashed the strength of the great national unity in carrying out tasks related to socio-economic development, national defense, and security,” informed Nguyen Van Manh, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Khanh commune.

Besides economic development, My Khanh today also focuses on preserving and promoting traditional historical and cultural values. Revolutionary historical relics have been restored and renovated, becoming important sites for traditional education. Schools have been built with modern facilities and teaching equipment, creating favorable conditions for children to receive a complete education. Cultural centers and community centers have been invested in and built, becoming places for cultural and artistic activities, and sports, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people.

My Khanh today has truly undergone a transformation, rising strongly on the path of development. The achievements are vivid evidence of the tireless efforts of the Party committee, the local government, and the unity and cooperation of all the people.
