From the beginning of 2023 until now, the number of tourists visiting the My Son temple complex (Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province ) has increased sharply, especially international tourists. In the first quarter, the total number of visitors reached over 80,000. During the three-day holiday (April 29th to May 1st), the number of visitors reached over 5,500, including more than 4,000 foreign tourists. In April 2023, the total number of visitors to My Son reached nearly 36,000.
These "telling figures" show that My Son tourism is making a spectacular recovery after a long period of stagnation due to the pandemic. This is a very optimistic sign for the My Son tourism recovery roadmap, which aims to welcome 180,000 visitors, including 130,000 foreign tourists, in 2023, as set by the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board.
Besides objective factors such as the high number of international tourists returning to Vietnam, the intensified promotion and advertising of My Son's values through various visual and online forms has also contributed to spreading the image of the heritage site to a wide range of visitors from near and far. In particular, My Son has recently developed, upgraded, and renewed its services, such as Cham folk art performances (6 shows/day, including 2 performances inside the towers). Furthermore, the tour program for the newly restored temple complexes (A, K, H) has been perfected; ticket control is implemented via QR code scanning; a multilingual audio guide system has been completed; and a 360-degree virtual reality tour of My Son has been introduced.

Many unique tourism products
Notably, the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board recently launched a new tourism product called "Legendary My Son Night." This product is unique to My Son, situated right at the foot of ancient towers over a thousand years old. These new, unique, and distinctive tourism products have helped My Son tourism recover faster than expected, making it an attractive tourist destination in Quang Nam province. Furthermore, My Son has been suggested by foreign media as one of the top 10 must-see tourist destinations in Vietnam. The My Son temple complex also appeared in the Hollywood film " A Tourist's Guide to Love."
Mr. Phan Ho, Director of the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board, believes that My Son's success today lies in transforming its initial goal of "preserving and conserving the complex of relics" into an attractive tourist destination. Although time has been short, My Son has witnessed remarkable progress in tourism, from services and tourism products to an increase in visitor numbers. This has created important conditions and motivations to attract resources for investment in the conservation of the temples and towers there.
According to Mr. Ho, the Management Board will continue to promote activities to connect tourists and businesses based on technological products and amenities, especially focusing on digital transformation. In addition, they will diversify Cham folk art with traditional songs and dances, offering tourists unique experiences of Cham culture. Along with that, they will open tour routes to surrounding areas to reduce pressure on the heritage site and create diversity at the destination. "We will bring My Son together with Hoi An to contribute to the formation of an attractive tourism center in Central Vietnam in the near future," Mr. Ho said.
