My Son was chosen by a British magazine as an impressive religious destination.
(QNO) - The My Son Sanctuary (Duy Xuyen district) has just been included in the top 11 most impressive religious destinations in Vietnam, according to suggestions from the British travel magazine Wanderlust for tourists exploring Vietnam.
The My Son Sanctuary was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. My Son is a prime example of an indigenous society adapting to external influences, notably the Hindu architectural art of the Indian subcontinent.
This site is a religious tourist destination, offering opportunities to explore unique and fascinating cultural history and architectural art; it is also situated within a complex of forests, streams, and the characteristic ecological environment of the Central Vietnam mountainous region.
Other destinations suggested by Wanderlust in the list include: Thien Mu Pagoda (Hue City), One Pillar Pagoda ( Hanoi City), Temple of Literature - National University (Hanoi City), Perfume Pagoda (Hanoi City), Jade Emperor Pagoda (Ho Chi Minh City), Thich Quang Duc Memorial (Ho Chi Minh City), Bai Dinh Pagoda (Ninh Binh), Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam), Van Thuy Tu Palace (Binh Thuan), Cao Dai Holy See (Tay Ninh).
According to Wanderlust, the structures on the list reflect cultural life within the religious context, showcasing the intermingling of indigenous Vietnamese culture with that of India and China; some of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
